I've been stuffing engines that don't belong where I have stuffed them for years... just watch out for the radiator and the firewall... if possible mount the xfr case in the same place so you don't have to redo driveshafts... moving the mounts on the xj frame isn't hard... I'd leave what you have in place and just use a piece of plate steel to relocate the mounts on the saddle to make it work... 0.125 metal should be enough since we're probably not talking about a long distance or much leverage... the other option is what I've done on earlier Jeeps, move the mount saddle to make it work... get the mount assembly to the uniframe from a wrecked xj or wj and have it bolted or welded in... the xj mounts sit like saddles on the uniframe, an easy fabrication that shouldn't require exotic welding... gravity is your friend... run a few bolts with washers through the uniframe and you're golden... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Mon, 15 Jun 2009, Christopher Wilson wrote: # If can get the measurement between the mounts I can see if I can machine the # block to take the XJ brackets. # # I have a sinking feeling that I'm hosed too... # # # On 6/15/09, Kevin wrote: # > # > When I picked up a new engine for my brother's 2000 XJ, I tripped over # > the same sort of thing. The mount perches bolt to the uniframe, that's not a big problem. Only problem I can think of is the frame doesn't run as two parallel lines under the hood, it fans out a bit. Depending which direction you have to move the mount, drilling and reusing the factory saddle as is may not be an option. That stroker engine with an AW4 in a WJ would probably scoot along quite nicely :) On Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 11:33:47AM -0700, john wrote: > I'd fiddle with the mounts and the perch, not the block... > > if I recall correctly the mount perches are sheet metal and should be > easily modified/welded... even an amateur welder should be able to make > it work, nothing fancy... :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jun 2009 11:54:25 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: xj: Motor mount distance why not look at mating a 45RFE out of a wJ with an NV247? don't use the 42Re that usually mates to the 4.0 in a WJ... same thing they used in the ZJ... figured I'd get better mileage in a wJ with a 4.0, not so... most likely because of the AT... my '99 wj with a 4.7/45rfe does quite well overall, especially with amsoil synthetics.. it loves cruising on the freeway, see 21 mpg, even 18 towing my trailer... in town it's pretty sad though. ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Mon, 15 Jun 2009, Kevin wrote: # Yeah, memory serving me, drilling the block isn't really an option if you # want it to last. # # The mount perches bolt to the uniframe, that's not a big problem.
