Jeeps a plenty... the guy that I got the dead 2000 WJ from finally looked at the '89 XJ... AFTER we transfered titles today... and decided he is going to let me buy it back cheap... no complaints... I like the '89 XJ limited... it still needs some TLC, but it's a nice clean rig... So I'll finish dialing it in and make a nice return on that labor. Hopefully my '83 J10 step side will be done soon... because, the guy interested in the '86 cj-10a is getting the 2002 subura ready for the trade, will check it out next week... will sell the legacy right as soon as SuperDawg is home... the little tug has been a blast. We made a WVO run today with it down into Seattle... did quite well. So, I'm heading out to the monster carport right now. Got the 12 point 1/2" 1/2" drive deep socket today to pull the head on the '00 WJ 4.0 and see what evil lurks there in... am still hoping the head is ok... but the way my luck is going with all the delays... not expecting it to be good... :) thankfully the '91 300d is doing fine, just needs "go juice"... heading up to the biodiesel barn tomorrow with wvo to get some... only problem is my barrel lift is kaput and my electric tranfer fuel pump doesn't like the cooler weather and biodiesel... not sure how I'll get the biodiesel from there to here and in the tanks... my 5 gal cans were loaned to a friend who is currently on contract in Iowa... so I may be stuck siphoning biodiesel from the 20gal barrels... :) mark and I got his '85 Grand Wagoneer fixed, we swapped the xfr case out yesterday! it's out of the shop... and two jeeps are taking it's place... (the '89 xj and the '00 wj) All in all when I get all these vehicles fixed and out of here I will have pretty much covered the wedding expenses! The Lord has provided... now I have to go out and bust some knuckles. :) soon for sale: '02 subaru legacy '00 grand cherokee '89 cherokee limited ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Nov 2009 23:34:14 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: xj: only 5 nuts left... almost got the head free, all the head bolts are out and set aside in order... only five nuts holding the intake/exhaust manifold in place, and then the head will be free... think I'm going to drop the down pipes so I can move the manifold aside... noticed some coolant leaking out of the head gasket, need a pan and drain the rest out before I lift the head... will be at church praying tomorrow morning, WVO run in the afternoon, not sure when the next wrench session will take place, but it'll be the session that learns the truth... have to go to the credit union monday to get the money to buy back the white xj... glad it worked that way, the xj wasn't really ready to go, was trying to get the WJ's PO extra money on a trade in, but it didn't help him... so I get to buy it back... no problem, will finish fixing it and get a lot more for it this way... calling it a night.. oh, pictures at: http://wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/2000-WJ-4.0L-head-gasket/ ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 2009 17:43:24 -0800 (PST) From: diesel john Subject: xj: melted piston, not the head gasket... this is about as bad as it gets... unless of course the rod goes through the block... or out the pan. ;) the head actually looks like it might be ok, but the exhaust valve isn't seated properly. http://wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/2000-WJ-4.0L-melted-piston/ALL.html so, Terry, looks like you called this one right! I think the guy I got this thing from will be happy he didn't have the shop replace the head gasket... this would have gotten expensive for him in a big hurry. looking for a used engine... may swap this for another jeep... not really set up for an engine swap, have the '89 Cherokee to get running as well... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 2009 21:31:11 -0800 (PST) From: diesel john Subject: xj: RE: broken piston, not the head gasket...
