I have two running vehicles, one running but without paperwork that should be ready Wednesday and yet another running vehicle by the end of the week... in other words, no need to panic... :) word from centralia is that superdawg will be done... hopefully sooner than later... superdawg, the '83 J10 stepside with the sd33t/tf727/np208 on 3.54 dana 44s and 235/75 15s is by far the best looking most practical solution. I have examined, experimented and tried a variety of other setups but keep coming back to that FSJ J10 stepside... so... in the meantime I checked out a variety of Diesels... learned from the collectvie that I really do not want a W210 Mercedes Diesel ('96-'03), I don't know if I'm going to test drive it or not... likely not... also learned that I'm not quick enough to score an inexpensive TDI, especially when the guy doesn't return email (I still have the cash ready)... also, that I really don't want a 2wd Diesel that is rusted, or a 2wd Diesel that has a bad transmission... I've found out haw many flakes there really are on craigslist... they don't answer their phone, return emails... will, not until a day or two AFTER you had the time to look or have purchased something else, and they'll put a thumbnail picture on line and wonder why you want to see pictures! and the pictures they take are amazingly horrible... they walk a block away, hold the camera vertical for a horizontal picture so the subject is in the middle of the picture and takes up maybe 10% of the entire surface... of course after they've run their fingers over the lens after eating a bag of potato chips or changing the oil, just to give that special effect... I even looked at what should have been a very nice '84 Blazer, from the description... and for the most part it was... but the guy was a smoker and had painted the truck with a rattle can with his 12 yr old son... ok, it was ONE color and didn't look all that bad, but I'll pass anyway... :) I even found a $500 non-rusted 2wd Toyota gas with extended cab and thought about swapping the Diesel into it... until I did that crazy reality check thing again... :) so, currently running and in use: '91 300D and the '99 WJ paperwork pending on my nice white '89 XJ limited that will end up doing WVO service until superdawg is healed... and the '00 WJ that looks like my '99 WJ but has a 4.0 instead of a 4.7 will be done this week, will get cleaned up nicely, tested thoroughly to make sure it's perfect, and then sell it. so, at this point, I wouldn't stock up on a lot of extra popcorn... I hope... :) john '83 J10 - superdawg... coming home soon... I hope '89 XJ ltd - employed until the dawg returns '91 300D - economy car/daily driver when my wife isn't going anywhere '99 WJ - my daily driver when the wife is going somewhere '00 WJ - for sale '75 J10 hydraulic dump trailer... likely will go away when the dawg is done, we're likely moving into a condo/townhouse in the next few years and won't need a trailer for the garden work any more... ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 2010 06:44:39 -0800 From: "Traver, Terry N (US SSA)" Subject: xj: Ref..Help with Rear Hatch Lock John, Thanks for the reply, but I do not have electric locks. My real issue is that I cannot figure out how to lock the rear using the key. I am in Far West TX and even though I have seen many other XJ's around, don't know anyone who has one that I can look at. I may try another junkyard visit just to see if I can see one in place to compare with. Terry Date: Mon, 11 Jan 2010 14:46:19 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: xj: Help with Rear Hatch Latch the way the rear lock works is you can set it so it unlocks with the electric door locks and you can also turn it with the key and then push to unlock in the back only... if the main doors are unlocked with the switch, the tailgate should also be unlocked. where are you located? you should park next to another XJ and compare operation... john ----- - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Mon, 11 Jan 2010, Traver, Terry N (US SSA) wrote: # Hi All, # # I just recently joined this digest and need to ask for some help. It worked just like the key in the door. So I suspect if it is not working in the same manor as the door then something is not right. I'll check it on my '89 when I get home tonight... or maybe one of the folks in the xj list will have a better explanation. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Tue, 12 Jan 2010, Traver, Terry N (US SSA) wrote: # John, # # Thanks for the reply, but I do not have electric locks.
