Now, if you're keeping it until it gets parted out, it might not be an issue. Generally, I avoid ABS on most things whenever possible. On an XJ, you do this as ABS delete vehicles got the better rear axle, and it's far easier to stick the stronger ABS front shafts in a rig than undo all the ABS junk to put in a better rear end. I did that for about a year until I had them fixed by the dealer under the recall. Then a local shop replaced the rubber brake lines and put a washer in backwards which messed up my brakes again. My regular mechanic found the issue (some of the hose ends didn't even have the washer there at all, according to my mechanic) but after fixing things, it's working perfectly now. Came in really handy with this big snow storm we had a few weeks ago! Yay stopping distance! I wonder if it's worth checking if I can get it running again... I have no idea what to look for. I often wonder if this car was a test bed as it was a European model but I've not heard of an '83 having ABS installed. Hey Jon, I need some VW parts ASAP... sun visor, headliner... :) what's the best place to get the cv half shafts? also first gear linkage needs to be replaced... a little challenging to find first, the rest of the gears are fine. not sure how big the tank is on this thing, has 400 miles on the trip odometer and the gauge is still between 1/2 and 1/4. The driver's seat provides excellent lumbar support, no problems whatsoever!
