One day back in the 80's, a buddy and I just happened to be in the Outer Banks of North Carolina on Francis Rogallo's birthday. He, of course, is the inventor of the Hang glider. He brought several props with him to the Kitty Hawk Kites store. We were up on the upper deck of the building, outside, and he launched this HUGE hang glider. it was easily 30 feet across. After tying it up to a hook anchored to the deck, we all took turns hanging from the rope. We got 10 full grown adults to hang from the rope with minimal sagging. He showed movies of his hang gliders being towed behind airplanes carrying massive payloads. He suggested to the Army that the hang glider can act as a "trailer" for aircraft. In one case, he showed a tank being towed behind a C-140. The trick, of course is getting the "trailer" up to speed for take-off. Here in Northern Virginia, we have the Udvar Hazey Air and Space museum over at Dulles airport. They show about a dozen hang gliders, including some configured as ultra-lights. Here is a picture I took of one...unfortunately, there is no indication of scale: http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h48/ekummel/Air%20and%20Space%20museum%2020 08/?action=view¤t=100_3575.jpg Ed web/gadget guru - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ By Richard Feynman, Physicist, Nobel winner (1918-1988) "There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. The original RE LCAs failed in less than 2 years (on-road driving only). RE acknowledged the problem and were generous enough to sell me new bushings. Had to find someone with a press to get the old ones out and put the new ones it. The replacement bushings didn't last any longer. RE again acknowledged the problem and volunteered to do nothing to remedy the problem. As you can imagine, it's not too good for tire life either. There are a good number of discussions regarding this issue in the 4X4 forums. Might search for "RM42042" and "neoprene", the part number and material of the new bushings that they will be so gracious to sell you if you are fortunate enough to have purchased their previous inadequate bushings. Unfortunately, I have not been able to identify any other LCAs that will last any longer without sacrificing ride quality. This seems to be a common issue for joints that are constructed this way. I'd love to hear suggestions. - - -- Loeb _________________________________________________________________ Your E-mail and More On-the-Go. But that was a long time ago and they are probably more competitive now. Anywho, check out TireRack.com first - no matter where you end up buying them. Search by size as they don't have a Rabbit Truck listed (though an '81 Rabbit is) and, oddly enough, they don't carry truck tires in the sizes you listed.
