I've bought these in used book stores, on ebay, antique stores... 4x4 shops, etc. I also have an inordinate amount of Jeep brochures and literature... I was going to write a book about the SJ jeeps... still might... but I don't know how to incorporate a pile of shop manuals and literature that stands about three feet tall into a couple hundred pages unless I resort to microfiche... :) I also have over 30 tonka jeeps... unknown number of matchbox... I kept myself from getting bored when my wife was shopping around for antiques as we travel by buying anything Jeep in those places... some times I'd get a good deal... other times not so much... I've got the rare green interior Matchbox Gladiator J-truck... have a '76 WT Cherokee that's still in the box... an aqua wagoneer with the original box... http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Tonkas/ALL-tonkas.html will start organizing... and taking pictures... john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -o|||||o- Linux: the choice of a GNU generation http://WAGONEERS.COM Snohomish, WA- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ...shop AMSOIL directly at: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education" Theodore Roosevelt (26th President (1901-09), 1858-1919) RTB&TRSTGZS - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Wed, 10 Oct 2012, Troy Phagan wrote: # I would possibly be interested in some of the Jeep stuff, not the 'foreign' # vehicles. I have been playing with scanners ever since the 80's. I've used them all from the ancient hand scanners, photo scanners, flatbed scanners, sheet fed scanners, slot scanners. My basement looks like a museum of scanners over the years! Back in the olden days of scanners, I had a greyscale flatbed scanner that I used with 3 gel filters. 3 scans, one with each filter, magenta, cyan and yellow. Using register marks, I would combine them to create color scans! Today I use a Dell AIO printer that has a rather nice auto-feed built into it. It only does one side scans, but it's fast and it came with some very good OCR software (abby?). From the display on the printer, I can select what computer I want to send the scan to and what kind of format I want the scan saved in. I save in PDF and once uploaded to my SharePoint site, it auto indexes all the words so that all the documents are fully searchable. This is how all my bills are stored now. Plus receipts, packing slips, important documents like vehicle registrations and such. Of course, I'm running MS-SQL, I have a full license, but the express version is quite nice too! Free software is always good! I used to scan books back when I actually read them...The printer room at the company where I work has a really nice document handler. I drop in the pages, it scans both sides and sends me the document to my email address in whatever format I want. The latest "book" I scanned, I used a table saw to hack off the binding. It was only 150 pages, but it scanned very well and OCRed very accurately. Of course, the smaller the text, the more difficulty the OCR. Most of the times, the page numbers get messed up. But I used to do this all the time...hundreds of pages. On my home sheetfed scanner, an older SCSI HP unit, I would feed the pages on one side, flip them over and feed them on the other side, then use a VB script in Word that I wrote that would assemble the two documents into a single document with all the pages in order. I have hundreds of books that I did this with. Unfortunately, I no longer have the time to read books for pleasure, and as such, no longer have the time to scan books. Heck, the last "book" I read was an Exchange 2010 book I read over a year ago to get certified!
