Now, strictly speaking OEM: I) rear driveshafts always 2 (forget the p/n at the moment, but I'm sure someone will remember) II) front driveshaft - two styles: A) Cardon-Cross CV - 3 cross-type (one at the front pinion - which is the same as the rear uses and 2 in the CV which are similar to the other d/s joints but have the centering do-dad in the middle) B) GKN CV - one cross-type at the front pinion as above and a ball & track CV joint at the t-case end. These pretty much disappeared from XJ's after 86, but some ZJ's came with them, so it may be possible they reared their ugly head in XJ's again... they don't like lifts, so if you have one of these, it would be wise to change it to a d/s like A) above. III) front axle - two styles: A) Cardon-Cross - Dana/Spicer 260 series used up until ~94/95, then they moved up to the "Dana 44 size" 297 series. B) Constant Velocity - ball & track design similar to the GKN driveshaft and most FWD cars. 84-86 Selec-Trac's usually have these and Quadra-Trac ZJ's use them, too... since the axles interchange between XJ/MJ/ZJ/YJ/TJ models, it is possible that some of these sneaked into post 86 XJ models. IMHO, buy genuine Dana/Spicer U-joints. They are competitively priced and are better than most parts store brands. NAPA's lifetime joints are pretty good - but if you can get the Dana's - go for it! Last ones I bought - thru Randy's R&P in Everett, WA were actually cheaper than Schucks junk and the Dana joints carried a lifetime warranty, too!
