Tom, Dan and John visit Camino Cielo
the short version of the story behind the pictures...
- dan-at-tom.jpg - John and Dan arrive at Tom's house. John takes
camera out and commences recording the FSJ event of March...
- dan-tom2.jpg Dan's 87 GW and Tom's 81 Cherokee on the street.
- brakeon.jpg Believe it or not, Tom's Cherokee made it up
the serious hill of the day, with the PARKING BRAKE ON!!! So much
for the 6 cylinder, v-8 argument.
- dan-toh.jpg Dan on the top of a distant hill, he was like
a kid in a candy store. Tom and I kept wondering if he was going
to come back...
- tailhigh1.jpg
- dan-adj.jpg FSJ repair at
trail head, seems that lifting a Wagoneer two and a half
inches tends to tighten up the parking brakes... :) Dan was
underneath loosening the cable.
- teamwork.jpg Tom check's Dan's adjustments...
- biggrin.jpg You should have seen the grin
on Dan's face in person. It was a great day of wheelin', good friends,
great rigs, sunshine and a wonderful scenic trail.
- tailhigh2.jpg
- dan-tom.jpg Dan's 87 GW and Tom's 81 Cherokee on the street.
- hanging.jpg For some strange reason
having nothing to do with the fact that the photographer has a
"narrow" style Wagoneer, the pictures of Tom's Wide-Trac Cherokee
sitting firmly on the trail at this same point did not come out. The
picture of John, Tom and Dan was also spoiled.
- hanging2.jpg Same story here, notice
how the tires hang on the edge... Tom's Chero sat on terra firma...
- tom-back.jpg Tom's Chero as he
continues up the hill, parking brake still on...
- camino-cielo.jpg The rigs. Over
the other side of the hill lies a large reservoir.
- trailend.jpg A great meal at the
end of the trail. The Cold Springs Tavern provided the Tri-Tip
Sandwiches. The plaque commemorates the role the site played
during the days of the Stage Coaches.
It was a great day! It is unfortunate that all of us FSJ'rs are
so far from each other... If you're ever in Santa Barbara, you'll
have to look Tom Anhalt up on the FSJ-List and let him give you
a guided tour up the Camino Cielo. From there you will see the
Pacific Ocean and the reservoir.
You know, I could almost live in Santa Barbara... :)
that's all for now from fsjohn, your full-size jeep editor. Next
stop, a visit to see Jim's project up around Canyon Country on
March 23rd...
