If you've got no switch on the dash, and either a lever under the seat or sticking up through the tranny hump that says 2H-4H-N-4L then you've got one of these. The 208 and 228 are the exact same tranny case in different cases (the 208's case is MUCH stronger, so when it comes to the 228, just picture the Bottomless Transfer Case and realize that that is even more likely on the 228). For full time cases they used the 219 and something else, I forget what. The 219 is the Selectrac (oh, the other case is 229... it's the same as the 219, but in a lighter case... fancy that...), it's got no hubs, a selector switch on the dash for 2WD v. 4WD, and a lever under the seat for HI, N, and LO. The 205 is a cast-iron, gear driven behemoth of a part-time case. If you want the ULTIMATE in a 'case, this is it. The only problem is that most, if not all, was used only by Ford, and usually in a "divorced" arrangement, whereas the 'case was bolted solidly to a frame crossmember about 18 inches behind the tranny, with a short driveshaft linking the tranny and transfer case. I believe they're all right-hand drop, too. >> I have determined that the axle in my '89GW are in fact Dana 44's both >> front and rear. The transmission is a TorqueFlyte 727. I believe they're all right-hand drop, too. I know Chevy K5's of ~1980 vintage had them, my buddy has a Silverado, with a TH350 backed by a non-divorced NP205. And it's right-hand drop. I believe some other mid-vintage Chevy's had them as well. -Ken Kenneth L. Renshaw Resumix, Inc.
