What are the significant differences between a Chevy 350 and a Buick 350. Does the Buick use more aluminum parts bolted to the same block? Inquiring minds want to know! >>>> The Buick is an ENTIRELY different motor sharing only the displacement with the Chevy. It is well suited for the FSJ application in that it makes alot of torque -at- low RPM. The Buick design lends itself to torque. It has a 90 deg cyl bank separation as opposed to Chevy's 60 deg. It uses a timing cover set-up similar to AMC with the distributor in the front. HEI can readily be fitted from a later Buick. It uses the excellent but misunderstood and owner-inflicted Q-jet carb. There are many aftermarket parts available for the Buick. It uses rocker shafts instead of individual rockers. Other than that MAYBE the thermostat is the same as the Chevy-otherwise they are as different as a Hemi and a Pontiac. Buick made an all aluminum V8 in the early 60s, but that has nothing to do with the venerable cast 350. Brad Feick[Back to Top]

It's only been 6 months since last I did this task. You clowns have managed to visit my page 770 times since Feb. 3! But 766 of those visits were made by Doc trying to download my corrupt .zip files. The changes include: * The how to grease your driveshafts FAQ has been enhanced from the version that posted here and is now present. Follow the Full-Size Jeep Links off of the main page. * Compuserve's unkind gesture to my How To zip files is fixed. They sent me a message saying there had been a "slight" problem with the server my page is on a few months back. It said "all your files are undamaged." Yea right...and FSJs fly. (Thanks Doc for letting me know) * I added a link to the ORC FSJ site. I know....it's about time eh? Plus, I added links to the two archive sites. Click the Full-Size Jeep Links tag. * I added a link to the J-Truck Home Page. * Changed the front page humor. It's too long and won't last for long so check it out. * I added a virtual tour of the B-727 flight deck. Follow the Birds link and then the Heavy Metal link. * I added David ?'s home page. You can also find it on the Full-Size Jeep Links. * Updated Joe Sego's URL. And at least 10 more changes that I wrote down but, can't find right now. I have a better picture of me to scan and the pics. from the Winter Fun Fest. Look for them sometime within 6 months of my return from Mexico next week :-) I deserve this vacation too! I wasn't making a whole bunch of noise but, I thought I found a new employer. I knew a couple of guys flying for a local charter outfit right here in Reno called Great American Airways. One of them was the head of training. My resume was walked through personally and I was hoping for an interview before the next class started. Initial indications were that my lack of recent experience wasn't a big problem. They were flying 7 MD-8Xs and 2 DC-9-10s. Rumor was that 2 DC-10s were coming soon. The pay wasn't as good as Patriot and I did have to put-up a $7,000 training bond for 2 years (read toss a fifty on the dresser on your way out to the line :-( ). I wasn't real excited about Wendover, NV being my domicile but, I could tolerate it for the opportunity to get back in the saddle again. Anyway, the FAA jerked their operating certificate and they filed for Ch. 11 BR protection last week. It's like deja-vu. Exact same thing as Patriot except it was Ch. 7 BR. The FAA cited record keeping inconsistencies. Oh well...game over. Return to start. I'll put the list in postpone mode sometime tomorrow. If you have anything you feel like I can help with, stuff it in my e-mailbox. I'll try to have a margarita for each and every one of you :-). -- Michael Baxter, 74172.1164-at-Compuserve.com http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/MBaxter From Reno, NV USA on 28-Apr-1997 at 22:42:55 PDT !^NavFont01F0006MGHHPl40F9[Back to Top]

If you have anything > Have a good time... I'm getting down to the wire on a couple two or three possibilities... One company requires a 28 mile commute, while that may not seem like much to some, but that's through the Eastside on I-405... I look to spend anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half on that stretch of asphalt every day... The other job is about 15 miles away, but it's not exactly exciting... Still trying to get back to Boeing... and an FSJ buddy here in the Seattle area gave me a lead that might pan out, thanx Ron! I finally got in touch with Randy, that would be an ideal commute, wouldn't even get near a freeway... :) Don't get too much sun down there Michael, you'll look out of place when you get back.... later, john ******************************************************** john-at- http://www. Brad, you've already admitted your daughter doesn't like your FSJ... :) So, next to mark it looks like the Sco dude or james... bday's gentlemen... (you're really the only contenders since ya got licenses... Mark will be able to drive around the field here, but not out of the yard... :-) Looks like we're gonna do the 78 (?) J20. I'll scan a picture of the back of it in later this week. Tom will bring it over in the next couple of days... It has a "new" transmission, a "replaced" engine, a new carb, new brakes, decent tires, a Jensen stereo, a canopy that's been extended for the long bed, a pair of side tool boxes (that might find their way onto my trailer... ) Quadratrac, etc. It may have front end troubles... Looks like we're gonna get it for about $1300, and we're still getting the grille off of my 69 Wagoneer for it... Mark better get busy around here, at $5 an hour he's got a lot of work to do to pay for this thing... He's got a couple years before he gets to drive, if it ain't paid for, he ain't driving it... Besides, I'm already convincing him that we should fix it up, paint it, sell it to pay Mom & Dad off, take the profit and put it toward another one... We're also talking about buying my 69 back from Tom and going totally nuts with it and make it a serious off-road mud bogging type of rig... (I'm sure the warden will veto this idea... I think 4 jeeps, a buick, a trailer and a tow dolly are probably one or two sets of wheels over the load limit for her yard... :-) She's so mean... I only have THREE Jeeps for myself... Maybe if I let her have the little yellow one... :) (once I get old blue updated with whichever 4.0L I'm going to install, I won't care about the xj wag anymore, provided of course old blue dehydrates some with the smaller powerplant... :-) later, john > Sc0 wrote: > > 17..., and drive a FSJ. > > Don't forget me, James R., and I thought I was the youngest FSJ nut on > here! I'm looking to move to 3.73's as well... currently have 2.72's... don't know the answer to your question, but going to the 4.0L I figure lower gears will help get it moving... used gears should be fine. I need an alternator for Old Blue... Is that one for $10 still available??? Are there more? Fed ex that puppy, please...! I was gonna yank Old Blue's and just replace the diodes/regulator, but for $10... sheesh... UPS might be able to express ship it... I need it real soon... Old Blue is kind of getting bed rest right now... :-) I can have a check in the mail tomorrow, just let me know the address and the amount, or send it COD and I'll cover any of the costs... I'm not sure what Old Blue has right now, but when I drop the 4.0L in I may build a custom unit for high output... I've also got to modify the a/c setup... I've got a large enough battery that I can still use it for short errands... Get home and throw it on the charger... Glad the weather is mild... We'll have to have another FSJ fest when you get here. Roti is just down the road a little, Ron's not too far and we've got the Fisherman's Wife running around in Rufus the JeepDog... Allan might paddle across the sound again... and we might just shake some of the lurkers out of the brush, I know there's a few around here still... And who knows, we might even get to meet the infamous Eddie the Vancouver FSJ'r... > I was setting here at work watching the rain, and finishing up reading my e-mail > which you guys. Make the hat a color that doesn't show dirt or grease, but not too dark so we don't bake our brains when the sun comes out.
