I haven't been there in almost a year, so I am not exactly sure. The true AMC nostalgia is talking to the old AMC engineers, what a trip. There are still some Vipers around JTE, mostly for OBDII and production engine calibration. They sure are wild. The group I was in supplied the engine controllers (JTEC+) for the engines and dynos. Also been to the dyno a couple of times (wasn't it #7? middle of the building, near the calibrators garage, kinda hidden) Did you work with the Advanced engine group (Bill E. and pals?) My Grandfather worked for Willy's in the late 50s and early 60s. He worked at JTE (when it was Willys) and then ended up taking a job in Brazil working as plant management. If nothing else we'll meet over at Tom's, he's got about 7 in his backyard... :-) What works for you? I was thinking that maybe the fourth of July weekend might be a good time. I dunno. Roti, Allan, Java Joe, Eddie, Ron, Alise, and any other lurkers in the neighborhood... Any suggestions? I tried to put together some FSJ's for Mark Wallace's visit last year but no one showed up... Let's see if we can coordinate this thing well enough for a large number of FSJ's to appear, in fact, I may even do up a flyer and get non-list FSj'rs to meet with us and maybe get the PNW IFSJA group enlarged... I know of two or three FSJ nuts without computers that have virtual wrecking yards at their houses... I know Ken Wetherall thinks we would even make it into Four Wheeler... I could even work towards getting the event sorta sponsored even... Perhaps we could meet at a Jeep dealer or some other large parking lot near a restuarant so we could hang out for a few hours so everyone will have the opportunity to meet up. The gears are turning... Hey Roti, why don' t you give me a jingle and let's put our marketing heads together for something that will be fun and drag all these FSJ's running around here together for something fun and inexpensive... :-) In fact, I hope to be working on Old Blue saturday morning (unless I get reassigned to yard work), why don't you wander over... Java Joe mentioned the possibility of being over here later in June as well... Eddie, how's Ole White doing??? Up to a trip down here? Maybe we could pass the hat and contribute something toward your fuel... I'm sure if we all kicked in something we could fill your tank to send you back safely... I guess the three folks we need to calibrate on would be David Klingenberg, Eddie and Java Joe. There are also a couple other FSJ'rs in Idaho that might be able to make it out here. And of course Brad's down in Portland... come on Brad, you don't NEED reverse to make it up here... :-) Come on folks, we've got to show these other IFSJA chapters how it's done... :-) Let's keep this item open and active. > ------------------------------ > Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 08:57:58 -0700 (PDT) > From: David Klingenberg <kling914-at-uidaho.edu> > Subject: [No Subject] > > John M. There have been several really great responses to my posts for a glovebox door and radiator, so I thought I'd take a 'walk around' and see what else needs replacement. If anyone has any of these items, please reply via e-mail with your asking price. I'm sure that after the rig gets back on the road and goes through a complete shakedown, I'll have more to add to the list. Also, there is a yard here locally that says they have a couple Full Size Jeeps, and as soon as 'Pinecone' gets OTRA, I'll be checking those out and posting more about what's available there. All items (unless otherwise noted) are for a 1970 Jeep Custom Wagoneer (1414C393#####). The vehicle is a mid-forest green metallic exterior with tan pinstripe package, and the interior metal and upholstery are light tan colored. The engine appears to be the V8-350 Dauntless 2-bbl model (as stated by the serial number series), although I haven't been able to get to the casting numbers yet to confirm this. BTW: Can someone tell me if there was an OEM power steering bracket available that DID NOT have the integrated mount for the Air-Conditioning compressor ? I might consider a trade as I don't think I'll be putting the AC back in, because I'd have to replace MANY of the components. I'd like to clean up the engine compartment a bit, and getting this massive steel bracket out would be a BIG help. 'The List' begins (episode one): 1) OEM or direct replacement Radiator (complete unit) with mounts No holes please - already got one-o-dem :) Also Fan Shroud if you have it. 2) Interior Rear View Mirror (head, stalk, and base) prefer OEM No worn out joints please (I have enough of those myself...) 3) Arm Rests (all 4 doors) with mounting screws 4) Dome Light Fixture and lens 5) Ash Trays (front drivers and passengers - the ones above the glovebox) and mounting brackets/slides/fasteners 6) TailGate Window Mechanical (Electric or Manual) Don't need Glass 7) Hood Adjustment stops (the bolts with the rubber pads and plastic 'expand' nuts that fit in body 8) Right Front Cornering lamp lens 9) OEM Wheel covers with cutout in front for hubs 10) HeadLight trim rings and fasteners 11) Right Rear Taillight - Complete Lower Half housing/trim 12) Wind Wing Frame - Drivers side (with good latch) I have good glass, but if the price is right will take all 13) Defroster/Heater air output hoses 14) Battery tray and hold-down clamps That's it for now. Thanks for taking the time to look through this list, and please let me know via E-Mail if you have items. The Jacobs senses the sparks of the plugs and uses a microprossesor to adjust the voltage of the coil. so if a cylinder needs little voltage to burn the mixture it will have that or if it needs much it will get that. (at least thats the theory very roughly explained) The MSD simply fires a bunch of sparks all the time hoping at least one of them lightends the air/fuel mixture. Folks, As I go thru computer engineering(it's good to know that age and guile can still beat young and quick in school, But that's another story) at SWCC, my part time job is sporting goods at WallyWorld(WalMart). After I returned from swampy Southeast Asia, I vowed I'd never handle another firearm. In the next 33 years in an urban environment, my views were validated. After working at WW and meeting the folks who buy our rifles I've changed my mind. These folks aren't killing there wives and Bambi, they're hunting, teaching thier kids a culture, in the main, they handle them with respect. The ones who want to buy automatic weapons for "protection" still creep me out, but the hunter/fisher guys are cool. BTW, there were a ton of turkeys(poultry version) up here. They're coming back. I don't get it.... still won't idle, but she DEFINITELY has more power than before. LOTS more, it seems like. I did find a vacuum leak last night, evidentally I must have more. Just got home from work, will take a look after she cools down. Starter problems I told y'all about: wierd stuff... starter works once or twice, then kronks up. Won't engage at all! Pull starter, re-install starter without doing a kronking thing to it. Works fine. Once. Next time, crunch zing bang. Time after that, crunch zing bang wheeeeeeeeee! no work. Pull starter, re-install starter without doing a kronking thing to it. etc. etc. etc... Starter going back to Pep Boys in a little while, after they open, and after the exhaust cools. Neat dumb SJ owner trick this morning... was at the light right around the corner from the house, stalled. Starter no workie. Got out of truck to ask kind soul behind me to give me a push (thank God I don't like autos, eh?). He says ok, I walk back up to Timex. Door locked. I guess I really do need to take that kronking lock apart and fix the spring, eh? Good thing I habitually drive with the vent window open. Had to swing mirror out of way to open vent far enough to reach arm in to ignition and grab keys. With traffic inches from my butt. And of course the ignition switch isn't quite as easy to operate, especially the key release lever, with your arm twisted behind your back, reaching over the steering column, etc, etc.... sheesh. And y'all wanna mess with me about ONE little message............... the FSJ god is getting me good this week.... | | | | | ============= | 0_| / \ |_o |_|_____----+-----____|_| |====|=====|=====|====| ||____|_____|_____|____|| \_____|___|DOC|___|_____/ |\/\/|--------\_/--|\/\/| ______|\/\/|_____________|\/\/|______ Home of the "Bottomless Transfer Case" _____________________________________ email: fariello-at-inspace.net http://www.inspace.net/~fariello/fsj _____________________________________[Back to Top]
