Prices are less than the BFG's or LTX's. I'm gonna try and get down to Jim Blair's house and try on the 33" tires he has to see how bad it'll hurt SuperDawg... if it isn't much worse than the 31x10.5's I may go for the 33x9.5's in either BFG AT's or the new ProComp's... possibly the Mud Terrains... if I can return 'em if they're noisy for the At's... (I tested a set of Wrangler GSA's on my DIESEL Jimmy and they were so loud I exchanged 'em immediately for a different set of tires. :) Discount tires is great about stuff like that... john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ "The truth which makes men free is for the most part the truth which men prefer not to hear." ---Herbert Sebastian Agar Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2000 22:59:41 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: balancing act... - tire mounting... >> I'm trying to figure out what to do with the spare tire on >> my J10 Stepside now that I'm using the auxillary tank in the >> spare location... Ben sez: >How about mounting it vertically on the right side of the bed to help balance >the weight of the driver. Been fighting "DUNLOP Disease"!!! that's EXACTLY why it needs to go on the driver side... I've recently lost about 13 pounds! My wife and neighbor were talking about an all protein diet, something that was supposed to be all meat for 2 weeks... Well, I at MOSTLY meat for one week and lost the weight! Knowing that diets like this can be not very healthy, I basically decided to drastically reduce Carbohydrates (once I figured out what they were... ;) and have been doing pretty well now, the weight is off and has been for about three weeks. I may try to do an all meat diet for another week... I was up to about 186 or so, down to 173 or so... Since I'm only 5'7" I'd like to be down closer to 150... If I can get back to 165 lbs I'll be satisfied... My real father was over 300 lbs when he died of a heart attack... he was only 62 or so. Of course he'd had other problems, like alcholism and so on... point is I've got the potential to become rather obese if I don't keep an eye on things. :) I also don't drink because of a high tolerance to alcohol and knowing what's in my genes... :) Seriously, the weight would be better on the right rear (if I had a V8 it would be an issue), but if it sits upright it'll block my view to that side. I'm thinking about laying it down in the bed though... it'll look better and impede less with loads... btw, DUNLOP disease is where your belly DUN LOPPED over your belt... ;) john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ "The truth which makes men free is for the most part the truth which men prefer not to hear." ---Herbert Sebastian Agar Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 02:51:47 -0400 From: Michael Baxter Subject: fsj: Intake Manifold help NEEDED!!! Life would be easier if the former would work with the latter. << Keep in mind the Q-Jet and the Thermo-Quad both have wider spaced rear mounting holes than the front mounting holes. The 4350 is an odd-ball spread-bore in that the rear mounting holes are the same spacing as the front mounting holes. It is a spread-bore carb. on a square-bore mounting pattern. And the pattern it uses is the same as the Carter AFB/Edelbrock Performer...a.k.a. the wide square-bore pattern. I'm quite happy so far with the Cooper H/Ts though have little practical experience in terms of snow/ice/off roading. They work pretty good on the limestone beach of Lake Travis, which is now about 50% full, or diving off into roadbeds under construction to cut through a parking lot so you don't have to wait for 3 lights. - - Landon 89 GW ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 10:50:31 EDT From: Brazzadog-at-aol.com Subject: Re: fsj: Re: Intake Manifold help NEEDED!!! Having never seen a 4300, I don't feel at all confident that I could tell one from a 4350. I had thought a 4300 was a squarebore and had mech secondaries. Then I saw what looked like a 4350 on e-bay identified as a 4300. Do you know if there is a visual difference between the two? Ben ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2000 10:13:11 -0500 From: "Landon Tesar" Subject: fsj: Steering Stabilizer Subject: fsj: steering stabilizer refresh my feeble memory, what does a steering stabilizer do? or better yet, what happens if you don't have one? it's the shock thing on the front end that connects from the crosslink to the spring mount... john =============================== At first I thought it would dampen the hydraulic steering pump, and give more feel/feedback to the wheel, and the steering wouldn't be so light. Then I realized how strong power steering is, and how minimal the force is required to move the stabilizer slowly. I believe what it really does is absorb sudden impacts from the side to the front end, protecting the hydraulic system, and not jerking the steering wheel out of your hand. Whatever you do, don't try to get a replacement at 4 Wheel Parts wholesalers, they swear my GW has 'aftermarket' brackets, since their catalog part didn't fit. - - Landon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 14:28:30 EDT From: BWFerg-at-aol.com Subject: fsj: CJ-5 for sale i have a friend who is selling his CJ-5. it needs some body work (not too bad) and comes with tons of parts (according to him). is anyone interested? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2000 10:58:11 -0700 From: Clark Novak Subject: fsj: Weatherstripping? I've seen some in passing but never paid too much attention to them, and as always now that I want one I can't find any info on them. JC whipme has one for a 97-99 wrangler in their latest catalog (pg 66) that is real close to what I want, but was wondering if anybody had any other suggestions for something aftermarket. thx mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 16:09:26 EDT From: Brazzadog-at-aol.com Subject: fsj: Re: Intake Manifold help NEEDED!!! > Date: Sun, 1 Oct 2000 11:50:04 -0700 (PDT) > From: Carnuck-at-webtv.net (James Blair) > > A: The book just said Holley: Carbs and EFI on the cover with a pic > (looks sort of like a Haynes manual, but I didn't have a pen with me. > They only had about 50 books in the whole book store in the Automotive > section that weren't boats or airplanes!)
