That is, there are many, many little sipings that never appeared on the AT's. I would think siping in addition to that would be bad/unnecessary? You would hate life with 33's without regearing... TC never had much power and going from stock to 31's was painful even with 3.31 gears! Based on your objectives, you need an all terrain or like a bfg trail t/a, or something even more geared towards the street with some off-road capability. It's always a bummer to buy tires before you're ready. In 98 I ended up getting a set of 31's with stock height to get me by then later got the 4" lift, and maybe by next spring (2 years later) I'll have 33's after I do motor & axles. The 30's will look tiny with a 4" lift IMHO. Seen it done on a Wag. I'd lean towards the BFG's simply cuz they're great tires off-road, but perhaps the Michelins will last longer. I'd stick to quality name brands, and to my mind, Michelin and BFG fit that bill. Do they still make those Pirelli Scorpions? How about Big O Bigfoot ATs? Michael - --- Michael E. I have my spare mounted that way on my pickup, and it really isn't a problem once you get used to it. I hated having it right beside the driver's door cause I prefer to use that spot to transport items that I don't want in the cab (toolbox, briefcase, groceries). If the spare is there then you have to walk back behind the rear wheel to put things in and out and they are more susceptible to blowing around. Maybe less of an issue with a shortbed. > I'm thinking about laying it down in the bed though... it'll look better and > impede less with loads... Are you kidding? You don't have enough bed to carry a load as it is. With the spare lying in there the bed will be full! If you haven't noticed, I prefer an 8' bed. Welcome to FSJ ownership. :) Glad you found a good resource. The best way to own an FSJ is to be on one of these lists with the very knowledgeable folks that populate 'em. Finding aftermarket stuff is a challenge. Anyone could build a CJ with all the bells and whistles and be in debt for the next century doing it. Instead, you could do something few others are doing that is so hard to do you can't spend your money very quickly. :) Seriously, there are parts out there. We are fairly well supported for lift kits (all the major brands). Brush guards are junkyard items (stock), or hand fabbed, or a couple of companies make 'em, like Killer32 that makes bumpers and brush guards. JC Whitney used to offer swing away tire carriers but I am not sure of current availability from Valley Industries. MetalWard does some nice stuff for FSJ also. Aero makes aux tanks (the only one who does afaik). You can also get creative and adapt aftermarket or junkyard parts. We share a lot of parts with the big 3 or baby Jeeps. Hubs, easy (but only appropriate if you have a part-time truck of course). Seats can be done easily with adapters or manual seat brackets. CJ or several small car seats will fit. Carpet kits are fairly readily available. Junkyards are your friend. Summit Racing carries some stuff for AMC motors such as Edlebrock (thanks to the niche market for AMC racing fanatics). You can use Ford mid-80's ignition components, probably have a Motorcraft carb already. Basically just decide what you're looking for specifically and ask us. Someone will probably know where to go. Though you'll never find the proliferation of chrome gegaws and doodads, hop up parts, wingdings, and whatzits as you would for a CJ5 or CJ7 and there aren't any FSJ-only catalogs like there are "Jeep" catalogs that ignore the full size, there ARE a fair number of parts out there. Don't despair. It could be worse! Michael - --- Michael E. Shimniok - KC0EKI - Michael.Shimniok-at-usa.net "For every complex problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong." - H. L. The 1st day I drove it my a/c would not come on when I switched it from vent. Several times my airbag light would not go off when I started the engine(each time this happened the a/c would not work again). The problem seemed to go away for a few days. Then on Monday the radio and power windows did not work when I started the engine. I turned it off, waited a few minutes and tried to restart it. It almost didn`t start. I immediately took it back to the dealer where it has been since Monday. They seem to be at a loss to what is wrong with it. They were able to verify what I told them it was doing, but later when they went to work on it everything was working okay. Please help me! My new Cherokee has been in the shop longer than I have been able to enjoy it. It has less than 300 miles on it. Thanks, Ray In case you need this info, the vehicle has a V-6 engine, power steering, auto transmission, a/c, power windows, cruise, etc. What the heck is going on? COLUCCI" Subject: fsj: No Acces. WHen You Start The Jeep Greetings James! I know the answer to your question from all experts. The tip was the airbag light coming on while the jeep was running and the toys not working. This is simple to fix; but if they do not do it soon, or if they are to late, they will end up with burned up wiring that will fail to function even after the fix. The problem is the ignition switch in the steering column. As you know not the key cylinder, the actual electric switch. The contacts will hang as the key is rotated. The switch needs replaced. WHat is happening is the starter side of the switch is releasing the starter motor; but not rolling back the accessory side to the run position. This is why the air bag light stays on, or comes on during driving. The airbag test circuit keeps rechecking the airbag; because the computer is convinced that the switch is being turned to the start position. I have seen this problem lead to ground feedback on some circuits, like the parking brake light activation switch; and literally burn out the wiring and switch for the e-brake light. It can have the same affect on other circuits. Oh and I did get to see your site eventually. My firewall does not like you. So I had to take a fashion risk and peak around the corner of the wall at your site.
