Mark got my Michelin LTX M/S 31x10.5's for his '67 J3000 and I bought a set of Michelin LTX A/T 235/75's for my '83 J10 Stepside. http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/tech/FSJ-tires/ALL_Tire-swap-father-son-FSJ.jpg Both of us had one thing to say afterwards: ahhhhhhh, so smooth. :) http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/tech/FSJ-tires/ I also filled my auxillary tank, 24.6 gallons. Picked up some seat belt bottoms, a tach, vacuum guage and a voltage gauge, heading out to fix the CPS on the XJ, oil change on the Benz and bypass the AMP Gauge on Superdawg... later, john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Nov 2000 20:02:26 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: Crank Position Sensor & tire photos I just replaced the CPS on my 88 4.0L. Pix at: http://wagoneers.com/XJ/tech/4.0L-CPS running much better now. Idle back to 750 rpm. It had been loping around 500rpm. It stalled on my the other night in traffic at lights. Seemed to get worse the warmer it got. I did find out one of the reasons why these silly things keep going away... they're made in france. :) This was the 4th or 5th one I've replaced in around 45,000 miles, had the little wagoneer since August 1996. :) Also did the tire swap with my son. His '67 J3000 needed tires bad. He was talking about buying lockers... I encouraged him to get better tires... gave him a sweet deal on my Michelin LTX M/S 31x10.5s. I put Michelin LTX AT P235s on my '83 J10. We both noticed a smoother ride. :) I've also got a slightly more aggressive tire, and had them siped. My mileage should improve too... http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/tech/FSJ-tires/ALL_Tire-swap-father-son-FSJ.jpg I still have a tach, volt and vacuum gauge to install on my truck. Fixed the speedo o-ring. (have 29 tooth gear in there, FYI for myself (I can search the digest to jog my memory... ;) I think I dropped 6% in size, my odo was right on, but my speedo is 5 mph off... hmmm... Olympic wants $65 for a new dash cluster... I've got two older ones laying around, but I want one with the extra digit. :) Also picked up a pair of the lower seatbelt part so I don't have to dig between the seats to buckle up. :) later, john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Nov 2000 13:07:57 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: 258 Fi ????? Due to some of the cross-ditches we'll have to traverse, this trip is best suited for high clearance vehicles and trucks. 4X4 is a advantage, but not necessary. Nov 19 Sunday will be the day that we congregate in the Central Fraser Valley 50 miles east of Vancouver along Hwy# 1, the Trans Canada Hwy. Meeting point will be at the exit for Yarrow, which will be the exit for # 3 Road. We'll meet on the southside of the highway..look for a large building selling fruit and we'll meet right across the street from it...there's a large empty lot there where we can all park till we round everybody up. From there we'll travel a couple of miles into the little town of Yarrow, get the last minutes supplies of goodies for us and the vehicles, and then head off into the hills. We will enter the scenic Chilliwack Valley via an old Forest Service Road not normally taken by city folk. Some of the highlites of the tour we hope to see are: a trip to some small river-carved caves 30 feet above water level, (bring a flashlite and old clothes if your brave enough to go in them..mucky..yech), a stop right on the river to view the spawning salmon right at our feet, and then run further into the valley to a fish hatchery and view the various types of salmon jumping up the fish ladders. From there we'll again get back on a FSR and head up to the back side of Mt Cheam to the parking lot from which hikers begin their ascent of Mt. Cheam. Back down the mountain and we will hook up with another FSR to lead us out of the valley along a bench road on the opposite side of the river. Somewhere in that maze of roads we will take a side trip up one of the smaller valleys and follow Foley Creek to it's source in the mountains above Foley Lake. Not all of this trip requires high clearance vehicles. If you have a car you can take bypasses along the main paved highway and still see much of the route we have planned. There might even be room in some of the trucks so that you can park your car for the day, jump in and play passenger with somebody else, and we can pick up your car later as we will finish the trip about 1/2 mile from where we start. Bring a lunch and snacks as we will be eating on the road. Home phone is 604-465-4058 My cell number is 604-644-6842 Plan on leaving from the meet point by the highway at 9.30am and monitor channel 22 if you're late. Or try my cell phone...I should be in range for an hour or so after we depart.... Any Q's contact me and I'll gladly answer them... Hope to see you there... Ed Pedersen Vancouver Canada ICQ 23536957 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Nov 2000 15:14:17 -0800 From: Ed Pedersen Subject: fsj: Squamish Tour By Backroad Drivers Hosted by Ed Pedersen Dec 3/00 Sunday will be the day to pencil on your calendar for a tour of this logging town and surrounding area. This trip will be suited for all types of vehicles. Meeting point for the group will be the White Spot Resteraunt in North Vancouver at 2205 Lonsdale, phone number 604-987-0024. The resteraunt is approx two blocks south of Hwy#1.. take the Lonsdale exit south, go down two blocks and it's on your right hand side. Plan on leaving at 9.30am so we can get a jump on the traffic along the busy Sea to Skyway Highway that runs from North Vancouver to the town of Squamish. Stops of interest along the way will be the old Brittannia Copper Mine, Shannon Falls and numerous pullouts along Howe Sound that afford a wonderful view of a seascape vista. At Squamish we'll try to find some Bald Eagles to observe as they gather to feast on the returning salmon. That shouldn't be too hard as the small town just north of Squamish called Brackendale registered a high count of eagles that set a world's record...nearly 3800 eagles gathered at the confluence of the Squamish River and the Cheakamus River. We'll stop for lunch in Squamish at one of the many small cafes that cater to the tourists that visit the town....or there is the usual plethora of fast food outlets in town as well... Any Q's drop me a line and be glad to answer what I can... home phone 604-465-4058 cell phone 604-644-6842 Hope to see you there.... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I wanted to clarify a couple of things for those of you planning on attending. Due to the fact that it is now fall, some of the attractions along the way will be closed for the season. The Mining Museum at Brittania Beach will be closed. However, we will be able to stop at the site and look at the maze of buildings that cling to the hillside that housed the seperators and crushers for the copper after it was brought to the surface. We will not be able to go into the old company offices that make up the museum, nor will we be able to take the tram tour that takes you 1/2 mile under the mountain, where they show you some of the methods of mining. There is also a train museum in Squamish that is closed for the season. I haven't been there myself, but I hear that it is worth a visit. These two attractions, plus a couple of other minor ones make this worth another drive which I will plan for the summer. You can have the Bald Eagle and salmon spawning views in the fall, and you can have your tourist attractions in the summer, but ya can't have both at the same time..... :( Ed Pedersen Vancouver Canada ICQ 23536957 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Nov 2000 15:32:26 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: SuperDawg project list... The new Michelin LTX AT 235's ride awesome. It's incredible the difference between a P235 and the 31 LT's. Also the 2" blocks in the back helped some too, now the Rancho 9000's actually move more than 1/2" before bottoming out... when I did the poor man's lift my rear springs didn't gain much over stock like the front did... strange... Anyway, Mark and I were talking about what's next on the way to church. Here's my list, two guesses what he thought was number 1. PROJECT LIST: =============== - - replace carb with either a Weber, Mopar FI or a 4.0L/AisinWarner setup. ;) - - new paint - - new sunroof (this one still has a leaking problem) - - ARB's front and rear :) - - new interior carpeting - - new exhaust Any guess what my son felt was the most important? ;) So, hurry up someone and buy my 300SD so I can get this stuff done. :) john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Nov 2000 15:43:03 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: fuel delivery My carb on Superdawg (4.2L, 258 I-6) is acting up again at idle... So, the plan is to replace it with something better. options: ========= - - Weber 32/38 ~$400 total (actually less) - easy swap - - Mopar Fuel Injection kit ~$1,700 or more - not as easy :) - - 4.0L / Aisin Warner 4speed Automatic (??? $750 to $1,500) - "slightly" less easy My goal is better fuel economy. I do plan on keeping the truck for a long time. It's already survived two Mercedes Diesels... both of which I liked, but not as much as this truck. So the cost factor isn't a deciding factor, necessarily... Guess it always is a factor since money is tight... :( I've only known one guy to do the Mopar Fuel Injection, and he really likes it. It seemed to have taken him a while to do it though... which concerns me a bit... seeing as how I'll be in a catch 22 situation... I'll need to sell the Benz to afford the kit, but will need the Benz to drive while I install the kit... rofl... Recommendations? The 258 is currently mated to a World Class T-5 that seems to be working well. I would prefer an automatic, but not eager to go to a TF727. If I did an auto swap I'd want the Aisin Warner 30-40LE. It's an awesome transmission. The 4.0L is an awesome motor as well... Maybe I should get a 4.0L/AW4 and Quadradrive setup out of a 99 and up Grand Cherokee... that would probably run about $3,500 though... but that would be awesome... I think reality is going to have me calling for a Weber carb... Quickest, easiest solution... dreamin' on a rainy day... heading out to finish hooking up lights and guages. :) john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Nov 2000 16:10:32 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: best price?
