I even got one to do 14.7 in the 1/4 on LPG) Instead of a TH400, maybe go all the way, and use a 4L80 (not E!) trans and case behind it. The biggest secret to keeping those motors together is keeping the RPMS down (Right, John? ) I would still opt for the Nissan turbo diesel with either 727 (from an IH) or AW4 (as used in Nissan Maximas and 810 RWD cars) BTW, the seperate harness and AW4 shift controller from one of those diesels should work on a 258 as well!    From: "Andy" Hey John, Man, you think way too much like me :) Off hand, here was my thinking wrt the 300SD into a waggy. Use the MB auto, its a really nice tranny, works well, and is beefy enough to stand up to the Jeep's weight. Tcase, a divorced 205 would be my thought. I've heard of divorced Dana20's but I have yet to see one. Personally, the swap I'm going for, is the olds 350 diesel. Say what you will about them I've seen 4 of them go over 500,000kms (1.6km/mile for you americans) without requiring a rebuild. With some relatively minor modifications their shortfalls can be cured. To a TH400, then to possibly keep the QT or I'll go to a NP203 if thats not possible. The advantage to the olds, is compared to the 360, they are about the same weight (actually i think the 360 was heavier by 20lbs or something) its a chevy, so parts are easy to find. Virtually all the necessary adapters engine mounts etc exist for the swap, and they are cheap too :) My dream swap is a 5.9 cummins turbo, but try to find one of those for sale at a reasonable cost! Never mind the fact it would probably twist my frame into a pretzel :) Andy 79 Wagoneer LTD "Shake N Bake" Calgary Alberta Canada (Eh!) ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 Comanche http://homepages.go.com/~carnuck/carnuck.html ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jan 2001 02:02:32 -0800 (PST) From: Carnuck-at-webtv.net (James Blair) Subject: Re: fsj: Low compressions A: Sorry for the late answer (been busy with work and getting my house ready to sell, as well as empty my garage so I can put Blackie in for refurb) Make sure your valves aren't too tight (shorter pushrods are available) You can test them by having the cover off and while the motor is idling, check the pushrods are spinning. Then stop them from spinning with your fingers and turn the opposite way. There should be just a slight fight to do it. Otherwise they are too tight!
