A: One thing that you don't see though. Your title now has a "rebuilt" label on it. The companies aren't saying anything about it, but ask the appraiser (after he certifies his appraisal of course) and you will see that it does affect the price! John wrote: thanx... the argument about the previous rebuild wouldn't be a factor, it was rebuilt, reinspected, retitled and reinsured. ...not likely that this will ever end up in court... Besides the rebuild thing has not once come up as an issue from either insurance company, even though my company could tell during the inspection where the repairs had been (the inner fender shows signs of the accident, but functions fine), and they knew of the previous claim. So, based on the way things are done here, there has been no mention of the previous claim. Only the mileage and their idea of what "fair market value" is. ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 Comanche http://www.geocities.com/eaglemania2002/ http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13998 ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 11:04:21 -0700 (PDT) From: Carnuck-at-webtv.net (James Blair) Subject: Re: fsj: new to the list, some questions... There's a bunch of salvage yards in Reno, I've seen some sites online of different folks rebuilds and they mention Celica buckets and Escort seats as fitting in without much fuss. I'd like to find something requiring as little modifications as possible - something with the same bolt pattern, similar height, etc... A: You can make almost anything you can lay your hands on to fit, but since you have a bench now, you will need FSJ seat bases to start with! I put AMC Eagle seats in Elmo with minor mods (the headrests and tilt back and forward features were nice for resting on long trips) I put the console I had in Elmo into Blackie the other day (I also swapped my driver's side window regulator and cleaned the truck out a bit) so I have a black center armrest (bottom 1/2 only) if anyone is interested. The upper part was missing when I got the truck and I like my stash box better anyway! Sorry Bob the Dodge and AMC motors are completly different animals so you can't just take the intake manifold off one and swap it to the other. AFA the engine swap it would be easier to swap in the whole drivetrain. Otherwise you'll need adapters to the bellhousing OR if you swap the 318 w/ bellhousing you'll need an adapter to the tranny from the BH. Not to mention the input shaft will probably need to be swapped or modified. From: gregm-at-klune.com (Greg Miller) Dear Jim: The subject of this email says NP 208, and the text says 203, so I will deal with both. We do not make the adapter to bolt up to the 203. We can easily bolt up to the 208. 205's are also no problem. We could build an adapter for the 203, but they are so huge that we don't get much call for it. Our goliath box will bolt right in with the 208 or 205. You will be able to keep your existing hi and low range, and will give you an additional low range almost 3 times as low as the existing low range. I'm going to a UNIX security conference in a couple of weeks in hawaii and when I get back I think I'll make a serious effort at getting the engine swapped in my J10. If I jump right on it I should be able to do it in a couple of weeks, especially if I take some time off of work to do it. Have to... running out of working wheels here... :) My J10 has a bad cylinder, the little wagoneer was totalled, the Benz is going to go away and we'll probably get my wife another XJ. The little wagoneer will most likely become a driveline donor for my '67 J-100 Panel... but that'll be a few months down the road probably... On the J10 swap, I'll be rewiring the J10 and probably using the '96 XJ harness, may use the '96 xj instrument cluster if I can figure out how to make it fit... and then I'll have to figure out the cooling/fan situation, and the electric fuel pump, and of course the brake booster, of course the 2" body lift may solve that problem for me... I'm hoping to do that before I go, trying to finish setting up my shop right now... just had concrete poured a couple weeks ago. As soon as it's cured I'll put an epoxy paint on it... need more lights in the shop too... lots to do... gotta run, tired. :) After church tomorrow I'll swing by home depot and pick up some more materials, hope the rain holds out until late Sunday night... :) Making progress, slow, but steady... if I can get the shop assembled, cleaned and organized then the next step is the body lift and use bedliner inside the cab. I'll pull the interior out, will make it easier to do the rewiring. :) ttyl, john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 23:42:44 -0500 From: Cyber Phoenix Subject: fsj: a Reminder.... for those who have not registered for Ouray 2002! The cheap solution is add-a-leafs. They leave a little to be desired in the ride department. On the other hand if the rest of the springs aren't helping out then maybe the add-a-leafs would be a little more flexy than usual. Otherwise you'll have to spend between $500 and $700 for new spring packs. >Tires - My little thrill ride last winter sliding sideways on some >black ice, well I am committed to putting studded tires on next year. >Recommendations? When the studs are doing their job the rubber part of the tire will have little influence so get a tire that you like for rain or snow and then have it studded. >Seats - After 25 years the front bench seat is getting a little worn. >Instead of rebolstering it, I'd like to replace it with a pair of >highbacks. Anyone know of make and model I can find in a junkyard for >an easy swap? '84 - '88 Escort seats supposedly are a direct bolt in to the Jeep seat rails. It seems doubtful that you'd find junkyard seats that old in useable condition. Of course this assumes that you already have the Jeep hardware for bucket seats which your bench seat doesn't provide. You can get full size Cherokee or Wagoneer (not sure if GW is the same) seat brackets and rails at the junkyard. Your Wag will already have the holes in the floor for the bucket seat brackets. Once you've done that, CJ or Wrangler buckets are a bolt-in. That's probably a better solution than the Escort seats. The cheapest and easiest solution is to fix your bench seat. That's what I did. I bought a Wag bench seat at a junkyard for $20. It donated a few good springs and a second layer of foam in the seat and back. I used spray adhesive to bond the stock foam together and to add wedge shaped pieces to the ends and a lumbar shaped piece to the back. I crammed it all inside JC Whitney "custom fit" seat covers and it's good as new -- or better. >Gas Tank - She puts out a lot of fumes and when I had her in S.F. >parked on a steep incline she leaked when full. There is also a vent line from the fuel filler to the tank that is routed through the left rear body cavity and then turns 90 degrees down through the left rear wheel well. The rubber tends to break at that sharp bend and fill the cabin with fumes. The vapor seperator should be in the left rear body cavity (accessed by removing the trim panel) on a bracket near the fuel filler. It will have about four plastic lines, of various bright colors, running to it. Two come from the rear of the fuel tank, one from the front of the fuel tank and one goes to the charcoal cannister which is mounted on the right front fenderwell. On my '71 the limit fill valve is supposed to be in line with and near the charcoal cannister. I believe that by '76 this feature was incorporated into the vapor seperator somehow. When you have a full tank and park on a hill with the gas cap at the low end, you are just asking for it to leak. The easiest solution is to stop doing that. A tightly sealed fuel system would keep that from happening. But your Wag was never intended to have a tightly sealed fuel system, just a weakly sealed fuel system. >FSJ mailing lists - what's the difference between fsj-at-digest.net and >FSJ-list-at-yahoogroups.com?
