If the 4 way flasher rate hasn't changed then it's not a wiring thing (tilt columns tend to chew through the wires) From: john doctornor... rj is on the right track, sounds like one of two problems, a bad flasher unit or a bad ground. It could also be that your alternator or battery have a problem if the speed of the flashing changes with engine rpm. have your alternator and battery checked at any parts store if that's the case. As far as the corrosion issue, just breaking and making the connections in the wiring harness might help, squirt electrical contact cleaner or amsoil mp in the connections. when I say "breaking" I mean opening... ;) a flasher is a thermal device basically. as current passes through it to the lights it heats up and then opens up until the metal cools down, making contact again, heating up and so on. it's basically a bi-metallic strip, not unlike a home thermostat. If you have a trailer connected to the system and it's flashing really fast it's because it's making and breaking the contacts faster. A HD flasher will help. If it's fluctuating when in use it's most likely failing or there is serious corrosion in the wiring or at the lamp bases. If it fluctuates with engine rpm you have something going on in your alternator/battery system (regulator). john ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 Comanche http://www.geocities.com/eaglemania2002/ http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13998 ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 May 2001 12:42:28 -0700 (PDT) From: Carnuck2-at-webtv.net (jim blair) Subject: Re: fsj: Re: 4.0L A: Speaking of car trailers, I chopped up that ex-mobile home frame one I had (John has pics of it with the bare '84 GW frame sitting on it) and the axles I saved from it are wide enough to make a FSJ tow dolley, and if no-one buys them ($100 for the pair) I will end up building one! My son has acquired a 1979 Cadillac Coupe DeVille as a graduation present from his Granddad. Runs great and looks good except for some cosmetics. One of those is the deteriorating 'fender extenders'.
