The discussion of an "economy car" came up again... hmmm 300CD? ;) found out the new kj is about 50lbs heavier than the WJ!!!! john ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 15:53:47 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: RE: FSJ tonkas At 11:35 PM 8/23/01 -0700, Jim wrote: >I have the following: > Qty > 1 ambulance wagoneer (looks like a 71) > 1 fire chief wagoneer > 1 fire truck (pumper with ladders) > 3 state police wagoneer > 1 dump truck > 1 stake bed truck > 3 wagoneer > 2 cherokee (2dr) > 5 pickup (2 blue, 1 red, 2 white) > 1 tow truck > 1 camper > 1 cement mixer > 1 Wagoneer custom painted. It works on the principle similar to a claymore mine. :) It has a pin that sticks down into the activator in the steering column. A great deal of force would be required for it to activate. I figure since it's all self contained in the column, the column which I'm using, it'll be fine any accident severe enough to deploy it will be bad enough that I won't mind it going off. I know the XJ model air bags were pretty safe in not deploying for off-road use. I'll post to the xj list and see if anyone has experience a '96 xj air bag deploying. thanx for the thought. john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 19:39:45 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: it figures... no sooner than the Aussie Bull Bar sells and I get the WJ almost completely dialed in the wife decides she wants an XJ. :) The only thing left to do on the '99 WJ is to get a second key programmed, which may mean swapping computers out. I found a salvage yard that's willing to just swap computers. The only issue is figuring out how to program them for the car at the wrecking yard. :) If just switching them out will solve the problem then it's a done deal... somehow I don't think that will be the case... They're still too new for folks to understand how all the systems work out. It's like having an XJ in the late '80s. No one really knew about all the little things like track bars and crank position sensors and such... :) I went to the Jeep dealer today. Found a '98 XJ with about 70k on it for 11k. Saw a couple others, but nothing reached out and grabbed me. I want a light color XJ loaded... guess I'll be looking for a Limited. Looks like my '99 WJ will be marketable at around $20K The dealer is selling the '99WJ's with fewer options for about $21k, so right at 20 should move it to a new home. The new ones exactly like mine and equipped the same are at $42K! They have one in the showroom exactly like mine, exactly, down to the exact same options even, on discount blowout price of $38K. Who can afford these things???? My wife and daughter both hate the '87 XJ we have with 270,000 miles on it... sheesh... so what if it clunks a bit, rattles, leaks oil, pulls to one side and the brakes grab... it takes off like a rocket ship and gets 17 mpg in town... I threatened that I'll fix it all up real nice for them... ;) My wife wants another XJ, but one without problems or miles. She thinks the WJ is a gas hog at 15 to 16 mpg in town... ;) She forgets Old Blue's 11 mpg. :) I remind her that the little wagoneer used to get around 16 in town. I'm going to drag my heels a bit on selling this thing... gonna wait for another flip/flop. :) If you see any nice low mileage light colored XJs in Seattle or Portland let me know off list. :) john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 19:43:31 -0700 From: john Subject: Re: fsj: RE: FSJ tonkas At 06:20 AM 2/6/01 -0500, pyroboy16-at-juno.com wrote: >how much for one of the wagoneers?? >kenny >_______________________________________________________________ they vary in price from a few bucks to as much as $127!!! I bought my '78 F-250 w/plow in 1990. It had 70K miles on it. The front end was nearly shot. That could be blamed on the extremely corrosive environment (salt), extremely bad roads, lack of maintenance (PO was a little old lady), or the plow. Seems to me a that the truck in question is going to have fairly little damage to the front end. The miles are very low and it hasn't moved since '71. I'd be inclined to worry about everything else.
