Ain't giving me any where near what's it's probably worth, but this way I won't feel bad if something goes wrong with it. :) This puts me in a temporary FSJ-less and XJ-less state in Snohomish. (waiting for SuperDawg to be done, delayed because of a move... :( Looking for a '98 and up XJ Limited, light color, loaded... I think we're going to get rid of the WJ... The wife prefers the XJ over the WJ... There are things I like about both of them. :) Will consider an older XJ too, we're trying to save money as well... low mileage is important to my wife... Trying to decide if I'm going to list my 99 WJ for just over $20k or just under... See 'em on the lots at $22 to 25K... amazing that a new one is $38-42K!!! later, john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2001 12:35:36 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: Stalling some more At 08:27 AM 8/26/01 -0700, allyoop wrote: >John, >You were right, the carb setup did not cure my stalling problem, tho having >the accelerator pump working helps get it running again more readily, and >sometimes heads off a stall. I'm pretty sure it's fuel starvation. have you replaced the fuel pump? How's your fuel tank? Mark had trouble with is '67 J3000 similar to this after we replaced the tank, he found out we'd pinched a fuel line btwn the frame and the bracket, or something like that... could be the pickup as well... >Evidence: it catches quickly on restart, then dies at higher rpm, though >pumping the throttle will sometimes keep it going at 2-3000 rpm --running >but popping lightly through the exhaust -- until it finally runs OK again. >Funny thing is it only stalls at or decelerating to idle -- runs fine on the >highway and under acceleration. seems like you're getting fuel, but if the pump is weak (the diagraphm) then it might not hold the pressure at an idle or lower rpm. But if it's stalling during deceleration I wonder if it couldn't be a timing issue as well????? The fuel pump would be a good place to start, do you have a pressure gauge to see how much pressure it produces? That was also let you know if something is restricted in the tank. Another option would be to replace the mechanical pump with an electric and see if that helps at all. I did that on my '67 Wagoneer, of course that's after I dropped the Buick 3.8L in it. I got rid of the parasitic fuel pump when building the motor up. Another thought just came to me, what about vacuum? Speedy Auto glass up on Evergreen Way just south of Madison did mine, the manager is Kevin, they do decent work and are more than fair on pricing. ttyl, john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2001 18:09:48 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: RE: Stalling some more At 06:09 PM 8/26/01 -0700, allyoop wrote: >What fools me on all this is it gags when fuel demand is low -- runs fine >when I stick my foot in it. fuel return hose clogged?? did you ever adjust the bowl height? >However, I'm starting to suspect fuel pump too.
