Otherwise you have to allow the gerotors some time and slippage to build up pressure and grab. I'm able to make it up my hill in high range, but it makes it more interesting... wet grass and the yokohoma geolanders don't like to stick to each other well... :) but we get up the hill fine. I backed my trailer up the hill when they were doing the driveway, I put it in low range to make it easier... The grass was wet... but it worked superbly. FWIW, Jeep's Quadratrac and Selectrac systems are also great. My '81 Wagoneer had the NP219 Quadtrac, I was able to pull out semi trucks (empty, "ONLY" 24,000 lbs or so) and a stuck dump truck. The little wagoneer had the NP242 Selectrac system and it did quite well too. My '83 J10 Stepside is getting the running gear out of a '96 XJ, I was going to use the NP219 Quadratrac, but I think I'm going to use the stock NP242 setup and do a SYE. That is unless I can find a wrecked WJ before my truck gets reassembled. :) Jeep's 4x4 systems have always been the best. Even my '67 Wagoneer had shift on the fly capabilities with the Dana/Spicer 20 gear driven transfer case. I shifted it in and out of 4wd at freeway speeds without trouble... Jeeps rule, others we pull. :) john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Nov 2001 17:30:27 EST From: RMSquaredJeeps-at-aol.com Subject: fsj: JEEP RACING AND RALLY HISTORY QUESTION I'm working up a proposal for a part of my book that will cover Jeep's factory-sponsored racing and rally activities. In all of my Jeep books, I can find little but I know that there was some factory involvement in things like the Baja 500/1000 and the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. I suspect that Wagoneers may even have been entered in the Monte Carlo Rally in the Sixties. Jeeps over the years have also run in long distance events like the Alcan 5000 and One Lap of America and I'm already tracking down information from my magazine archives going back to 1960 but it is a tedious process since not all publications provide a year end index. A quick search of the TOC is needed to do a comprehensive search. Does anyone have any articles or documentation that might help me? More importantly, does anyone own a vehicle with any sort of racing history or pedigree? If you can help, please write me off-list (since I'm in digest mode) to rmsquaredjeeps-at-aol.com. Before I call the W. P. Chrysler library and archives this week, I'd like to have some dates and vehicles for them to focus in on and know that someone in the Jeep online community is sure to know something helpful. Thanks for any help, as always, it is greatly appreciated. On a website? John? Is my only option to get custom springs? Mine is just a family rig, so I'm not looking for a bunch of lift. But the stocker springs are so sagged that it hardly has any travel before hitting the bumpstops. I gotta do something...and I'd rather just be able to swap entire new spring packs under there in a weekend. I'm sure new bushings will help the handling/ride too. There are about 3 or 4 other companies that also offer up to 5" lift springs for FSJ's. Any kit that has front springs and a rear block for a J-Series truck will also work on a Wagoneer or Cherokee. Any kit for a Cherokee will fit on a Wagoneer too (even ones with 4 springs).
