I like the 4 speed part, sort of... Which got me thinking about the pros and cons of this Jeep, thought I'd share them: PRO CON 4-speed 4-speed 2drs 2drs 360 360 so I'm not sure what to do now... rofl... maybe I should explain my logic diagram. the 4 speed is better for fuel economy and "coolness". but the 4 speed prevents my wife and daughter from using it... now that's why it's both in the pro and the con column. :) the 2dr models are a little rarer and have cleaner lines, but it's harder for the passengers... but at least this can HAVE passengers... the 360, oh yes, the glorious amc boat anchor... ;) attached to a 4 speed I can see where this could be a lot of fun. The fuel economy claimed by the current owner seems with in reason, 13 in town, 18 on the highway... A granny low should be fun... with 3.55 gears this thing should do ok overall... would be nice with an overdrive... If I get it it'll be nice to have wheels for the wife... I've got a v8/auto and a six/stick, a two door and a four door, and a part time and a full time. Don't have a wide track (yet). I like them both for different reasons. They're completely different trucks with completely different applications. > a '77 Cherokee 2dr narrow track found me... having a friend check > it out before I get terribly excited... well more excited, or I should > say excited enough to inadvertently say something in front of the wife > before it's a done deal, otherwise it'll be a done deal if ya know what > I mean.. ;) > > it's got the 360 and a 4 speed... FSJ clutches hae great feel, and if they miss by a little, the torque of the 360 will help bail them out while they learn. > the 2dr models are a little rarer and have cleaner lines, but it's > harder for the passengers... but at least this can HAVE passengers... I have a 2 door and a 4 door, and while the 4 door is nicer when passengers are concerned, most passengers I've taken haven't really cared if I had the two door or the four door. The 2 door isn't too hard to get into the back seat of, provided the person is of average proportions. > the 360, oh yes, the glorious amc boat anchor... ;) attached to > a 4 speed I can see where this could be a lot of fun. A granny low should be fun... with 3.55 gears this thing > should do ok overall... would be nice with an overdrive... I like 360's. Then again, I have one in an ambassador, and got used to regularly schooling mustangs and camaros in a massive four door sedan, so I have a partially biased opinion. 18 mpg on the highway is nothing to sneeze at with an eight in a FSJ, especially since that's about what I get with a straight six and a stick. I'm envious of the granny gear, I don't have that, and it would probably have saved the gas tank two weeks ago if I did. *shrug* I guess that's what they make FW Steel for :) > If I get it it'll be nice to have wheels for > the wife... I spent all day to day running around... :( Get it. You know you want to. It's nice having something that you can carry passengers in, and can keep cargo dry in if you're not lucky enough to have a shell. Take care... FSJ clutches hae great feel, and >if they miss by a little, the torque of the 360 will help bail them out while >they learn. I doubt either of them will have any interest in driving one of my FSJs... I taught my wife how to drive a stick in our BMW in Germany. We survived that experience but she refuses to demonstrate the acquired skills, something about post tramautic stress syndrome... I think she's overreacting, I mean that guy in that little car had to know she was going to move into that lane... eventually... ;) Besides, he didn't hit us, and we didn't understand what he said... of course we did figure out the hand signals... ;) >I have a 2 door and a 4 door, and while the 4 door is nicer when passengers >are concerned, most passengers I've taken haven't really cared if I had the >two door or the four door. T-18, 1st gear is 6.32:1 2nd gear is 3.09:1 3rd gear is 1.69:1 and of course 4th is 1:1 6.32 x 2.0 x 3.55 x est 29" tires... what's the crawl ratio formula again??? is that around 45:1??? >Get it. You know you want to. It's nice having something that you can carry >passengers in, and can keep cargo dry in if you're not lucky enough to have >a shell. Who knows, if it's nice enough I may go through the same restoration process that we're doing on SuperDawg. After putting about 10,000 miles on a '99 Grand Cherokee (WJ) I'm very impressed with the 4.7L V8, 45RFE trans and the quadradrive II and vari-lock axles... If I could scrounge up the bucks to buy a totalled WJ, axles and all I might do everything except the quadracoil suspension... Or maybe another 4.0L conversion... Hard to say. I got excited about another Cherokee last year... or was it this year... Redwood City? Just drove through there in October... rushed for time, didn't visit with a number of friends along the way... :( Just saw a blurry picture of the '77 Cherokee... I'm in love... ;) Waiting for more to show up... john >Take care... >K >-- >Kevin Pekarek >Redwood City, CA - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Dec 2001 16:11:05 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: Fwd: Re: the 88 GW pix at: http://www.wagoneers.com/tmp/88GW/ contact Mark directly.... no need to reply to the list. john >Date: Sun, 9 Dec 2001 12:21:42 -0800 (PST) >From: Mark Wilde >Subject: Re: the 88 GW >To: john > >John; >Things have been hectic around here lately; still >feeling the fallout of the 9/11 attacks (my wife and I >are both Navy). >Anyway, yes on the sunroof, black, woodgrain in >excellent shape, and just over 140,000 miles and >running strong.
