Is this a typo, or is it a '73 Wagoneer, '83 Wagoneer Ltd (wraparound taillights), or an actual '84 Grand Wagoneer? (vertical taillights, same as the Cherokees). I think '73 was the last year of the closed knuckle? 5 bolt pattern? I know '74 came 6 bolt, because that was the first year of Cherokees, and they had open knuckle axles too. If you have a 6 bolt, pre '80 vehicle, I have a '76 Blazer Dana 44 front axle 3.08 gears that was factory SOA I'm selling for $150 with disc brakes included. The problem is the axle is same width as the pickup, so you would need WT fender flares, and a wider rear axle to match. (or not, if you don't care how it looks wider in the front) From: "Brandon Davis" I have become a proud owner of a 73' Grand wagoneer that my brother left in my driveway for about a year. It did not run but with a little work I have it up and running strong (embarassed a 69' mustang gt350). My plans are to lift it and make it a hunting rig. The body is rough but thats ok. Is there still a fsj club in portland, Oregon? My 95 cev pickup with a diesel died and my wifes 96 honda was leaking oil but the wagoneer is still running strong any help with places that have parts or any one who has done a spring over conversion would be great Thank You ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 Comanche http://www.geocities.com/eaglemania2002/ http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13998 ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 11:32:36 -0800 (PST) From: Carnuck2-at-webtv.net (jim blair) Subject: Re: fsj: Grille question A: It will work with minor adaptations (I recall a couple screw holes don't line up). The Jtrucks use the same grille. BTW, that's the mighty Elmo in that pic, my first FSJ. Amazing how plans change? I gave up on Elmo due to frame rail rust through (I got a perfect '84 GW frame to put it on, but lacked time, and then I found Black Jack) At the time I thought TBI would be easier than multiport EFI, but getting a whole '89 parts rig sure changed that plan! Wish I'd found out sooner the motor was actually a Mexican 282 (people wondered how it ran like a rocket with 2.72 gears!) From: George Milam Hello all: Does anybody know if an '83 Cherokee grille (as seen in the linked photo) will swap into my '89 Grand Wagoneer? Are there any modifications required? I am looking a grille for my '89 Grand Wag. I was wondering if the style (from a few years older model) that has the vertical rung type (as on the '83 style Cherokee) grille would interchange with mine. This photo http://www.ifsja.org/readers/cherokees/blair.shtml shows the grille stykle that I am looking for, doesn't have to be the exact year (if there are others), but I would like the similar style. If anyone has one for sale or access to one for sale I would like to buy one. I appreciate your comments/feedback. The main exceptions would be the mid-70s Wagoneer style with the turn signals in the middle of the grille and round headlights, as in the pictures in http://129.186.79.84/74Wag/ , and I'm guessing the original '63-65 (?) Wagoneer with the "rhino chaser" grille. And both those could be adapted if you had time and patience and were willing to do a little custom work or mix-n-matching. Were any of the other headlights round over the years (for FSJs)? I'd also guess any others with round headlights might at least require the appropriate headlight buckets if you were doing a switch, and maybe a little creative trimming (Dremmel (sp?) tool or something) around either the buckets or the rest of the grille. But I think most of the others were rectangular headlights... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want to know just what I see _________ look at yourself | | and don't ask me | Fates | And if you want to know where we're going | Warning | keep your distance |_________| and don't follow me - -------------- Dan Black ------------------------- dan-at-black.org -------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 13:22:31 -0600 From: "Randy Thomas" Subject: fsj: 1-harmonic balancer + 2-rust hole on firewall Opinions please. I am not all that experienced a mechanic. In changing the timing chain on my 360 I found that someone had stripped one of the thread holes for the pulley bolts such that it will hold only a minimal amount of torque (then it will spin). How serious is this problem? What are my options/risk factors - considering a holiday trip 1600mi? Would some thread locktite help prevent me from having to find another balancer since 3 of the 4 bolts torque-up fine? Secondly, I found a small rust hole (1/2")on the upper passenger side firewall (in the same area as the ID tag on the driver's side). I do not know what is 'behind that area.' Thoughts as to cause/severity/fixes would be appreciated. Thanks for the help. It has been my experience that liquids are no substitute for metal in a bolted joint. You do not want to lose a balancer on the road. It ususally take out the radiator, etc. j.m. I have temporarily installed the Gladiator grill, and want to get your opinion before I grind off the 79 mounting tabs making the Gladiator grill installation permanent. I have put pictures of Max both ways on the web: http://www.wagoneer.net/max/gladiatortest/ Check them out and vote for which one you like better.
