From: "R.J. Baynum" I would just get new springs all the way around... You know you are going to keep it, it's better in the long run, and cheaper that way.. and you won't be setting your self up for more headaches later .. my opinion.. A: Usually the wheel bearing is on it's way out when the oil starts leaking like that. A new Set 10 and a quick bearing press on should cure it. The broken spring may be allowing the axle to tweak back during braking enough to pull down the Ebrake cable. Try putting a rubber band on it to see if the light stops (DSPO of Elmo used speaker wire to permanently pull it up because he didn't like the light coming on!) From: JeepNut Thanks for the suggestions. The master cylinder test sounds like a great tip, as does Jim's idea about working out there in the cold. I'm gonna hack together a little frame and staple some 7 mil plastic to it to build a small shelter. Then I can sit a little radiant heater I have in behind that. With the wind blocked off it should work pretty well. Well why is it that things come in "groups" with these FSJs? Would the LR brake drum being full of gear oil cause the Brake light on the dash? The fluid in the master cylinder reservior is full. But I haven't yet checked the rear end. I suspect it must be 1/2 empty judging by the mess... No leaks from any of the braking system, but what I finally found splayed out on the inside of the LR tire was not brake fluid, but smells like rearend oil. So it seems time for a seal. But I'm left to wonder....is this why the BRAKE light? There really doesn't seem to be anything particularly wrong with the braking system. The pedal feels pretty good, (despite the rear on one side being gooped with oil), maybe a little spongy. Or will this be "in addition to"? Oh, and I noticed I have a broken spring under there in the back too. Oh goody. I may have gone to the Chevy dealer and bought mounts there... pretty sure I did, and then just modified the tower mounts to accept the GM mounts. Wrecking yard would be the only place I can think of for an NP205. An Atlas transfer case would be cool... :) Advance Adapters may have info on both the mounts and adapters for other xfr cases... I used one of theirs to adapt my TH350 to my Dana20. good luck, john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Dec 2001 12:25:33 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: was Greetings now Sportside At 09:50 AM 12/30/01 +0000, Tommy Lvvsund wrote: >>They are NOT common. It has a "big" Jeep feel off road. It rides nicely, handles superbly, and is faster than any SJ I've ever owned. My only beef is the lack of visibility. From a strength standpoint I think the SJ is far stronger as it has a frame. From total package standpoint the WJ is far superior to the SJ. I think it'll hold up better over time than did the SJs. The XJ is also a good Jeep. Again it's not as strong, but it's far more nimble than the SJ or even the WJ. Other than the visibility you'll love the WJ... Get the Quadradrive... I haven't driven one with the 4.0L, but they're better on gas and should move the WJ out fine... of course you have the option of the Turbo Diesel!!!! Drive one and see for yourself... if you can get past the heated leather seats and all that nice stuff you might be able to tolerate the sloping windshield... ttyl, john - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - --------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #1532 **************************
