First, there is the technical problems with doing this never been done swap, and then there is the cost. You'd be far better off doing like several other Jeeplisters have done and put the Holley Pro-Jection throttle body fueling system on. It requires a Holley 502-20S kit and an electric fuel pump (for efi) as well as high pressure lines (to avoid gas leaks) I finally opened the email Ray sent me awhile ago on his conversion. Apparently he also used a modified GM HEI distributor in his conversion. Total cost (not counting installation) should be under $1000 and net -at-14-18 mpg (depending on tires, gears, load, etc) From: john On Wed, 2 Jan 2002, A.B. I would like to put late model Dodge Fuel injection on it. What are your thoughts on this. If you can swing it, go with the new Grand Cherokee v8 4.7L, it's a better motor than the Dodge 5.2 or 5.9. In fact, the new dodges are using them as well. Maybe the caster is out of whack as a result of the lift. Could be worn out steering box or ball joints. TC's steering was pretty light and had lots of play until I put in new drag link end & ball joints. Now it feels properly tight and is very precise. I know a little about temp rides. :) Backhoe was just that when I was replacing TC's tranny and tcase. It's again doing backup duty until I get motivated to finish installing TC's rebuilt motor. Then once more while I work on WT axles, 33's and fender trimming. The problem is, I've been driving the temp truck for 2 years now. :D And I find so much to fix on the temp truck I could ignore the other for another couple years. :) The real goal is to drive TC (86 GW) to Ouray in 2002 with 33's, 3.73's, widetrac axles, GM TBI, newly rebuilt motor and tranny, and many other goodies to supplement what's already installed. It's sad. I spent two years getting it to a point where it is great to drive on and off-road, but it hasn't been seriously driveable since July 3rd, 2000. In other words, it'd be a totally sweet truck... if it ran. :) As many folks as are undoubtedly in the same situation of prepping, building or restoring their rigs for August, I can't help but worry that I'm going to arrive to a crowd of beater temp trucks, economy cars, and commuters. :) > see, wide works on rock... but in snow and mud it makes for big > slicks... :) on wet or icy roads they can be a handful... Hm... it'll be interesting to compare 33x12.50's with my previous 31x10.50 experiences. Of course we don't get enough snow and ice here in town for me to test properly. C." Subject: fsj: Jacobs Death Is Fiction Greetings To The FSJ & XJ Worlds! John reported hearing that Jacob's Electronics, the makers of the Jacob's Ignition were going to be out of business as of the first of the year. I contacted them yesterday via phone and was told that this was inaccurate information. The real story is that they are moving the manufacturing facility to N. Carolina. So there may be a brief time where they will be unable to ship product in the next week or so; but they are NOT going out of business. As for John's unfortunate experience with some of their electronic controls let's address that issue without slandering the companies name. I know for a fact that one of the Jacob's systems that John refers to he received second hand with the purchase of one of his rides over the past few years. We can not blame the company for what may have happened to that unit. Who knows what its story might have been, or how the DPO may have botched the installation, damaging the unit. John is right about the high quality of the Jacob's wires. They are very nice. I am also VERY PLEASED with the Jacob's ignition systems. I have them on both the USS GW, and my big Dodge truck. I have had these units for 5 years and never had a day of trouble with them. They have increased the fuel economy of both trucks. The performance increase has been really noticeable, especially on the USS GW. It starts so easy since the Jacob's equipment was installed, and feels like it has a tiger in its tank. So do yourself a favor, and help our American economy by purchasing products made by Americans, for Americans. Call Jacob's, and order a new years present for your ride that will keep giving back to you all year. FWIW John I just changed the front Good Year Wrangle AquaTreads on Lady Susan's USS GW. They had never been rotated in the last 6 years. They always rode great, and were fabulous in the rain and snow. I was pleased with the 40,000 mile life from these tires; and unlike my experience with John's beloved, foreign made Michelins I never had to worry about having a tire that constantly lost air. The Michelins I have seen, and used in the past have always had consistent tire to rim seal problems, causing them to constantly need a trip to the air pump.
