Now it is time to put the Cherokee in the garage. What I am looking for it a new crank shaft. The mains are gone on the 360. Have most of the part in the garage for a 304 but do not want to do a motor swap. So just going to replace the bottom end. Just where is a good place to find a Crank Shaft for a 360. The only parts store in town are NAPA and Wes bay. So looking for places that specialize in Jeep motors. Going on memory from the '76 my friend had last summer (a runaway bus creamed it while it was parked) The air pump was first to loosen, then the alt and AC. When they are loose, you can sometimes slide the new one in by turning the motor by hand with the belt stuck through the pulleys on the fan, then the crank (only if they are loose enough not to force the pulleys to cut them) If not, then take them all off, and mark with masking tape which pulleys they were on. (digital camera works wonders, and if Photopoint hadn't closed their doors after taking million$ from people for storage, you could have seen the pics I took. One more week, and I would have copied to CD all my pics. I even lost my vacation pics!) From: RKH911-at-aol.com I need to replace the PS belt on my 85 Wag today. The belt in ? is the inside ~18" belt connected to the PS pump and ??. Where, and in what order, should I shift the other belts to get this one on and back in working order ? Obviously a shade tree mechanic and as we've sold our home and are preparing to move again, all manuals are packed in boxes. Thanks folks. I've had enough fun for one weekend... Man were those coils hard to get off of those plugs. My guess is these were the original plugs on this engine. 43k on the clock, but it's probably closer to 50k (theft recovery auction rig). I did find a block heater in the process though. :) The plugs held up well for 50,000 miles, center electrodes were almost completely down to the center insulation... Seemed to run a lot smoother when I started it... mileage should jump back up. Guess we'll have to make another run to Portland to check the mileage... ;) http://www.wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/WJ-4.7L-tuneup/ http://www.wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/WJ-4.7L-tuneup/ALL-99-WJ-4.7L-tuneup.jpg later, john ----------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com '99 Grand Cherokee Ltd (WJ) - http://wagoneers.com/WJ '83 J10 stepside (SJ) - http://wagoneers.com/SuperDawg '77 Cherokee (SJ) - http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/johns-77-cherokee (son's collection: '67 J-3000, 67 Fairlane, 68 Montego) http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html Snohomish, WA, where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 06 Jan 2002 23:34:40 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: tunes My '77 Cherokee is now road worthy. :) I installed the Pioneer speakers I recovered from the wrecked little wagoneer... OH Man, what a difference speakers can make... and these aren't even real good speakers. (about $100 surface mounts, three way...) I suppose this is a good thing since the WJ has a miss, suspect a coil didn't like being forcibly removed during yesterday's tuneup. Funny thing is we drove almost 150 miles before the miss showed up... :( Not sure how to figure out which of the 8 is bad... waiting for wisdom from the web. :) in other news: >TODAY'S INTERNET INSIGHT >We can cross out "improved security" as the incentive that will drive >Windows XP deployment in the enterprise. >TODAY'S CONTENTS: >LEADING OFF: XP Security Flaws Surface :) at least I'm not the only one dealing with "equipment" problems... later, john - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com/UNIX from Snohomish, Washington reminding you not to leave life without Jesus. need a choice of tools? try: http://www.sun.com/staroffice/ ============================================================================= Microsoft Certified Professionals are to the computing industry what McDonald Certified Food Specialists are to gourmet restaurants.
