From: john My '77 Cherokee is now road worthy. :) I installed the Pioneer speakers I recovered from the wrecked little wagoneer... OH Man, what a difference speakers can make... and these aren't even real good speakers. (about $100 surface mounts, three way...) I suppose this is a good thing since the WJ has a miss, suspect a coil didn't like being forcibly removed during yesterday's tuneup. Funny thing is we drove almost 150 miles before the miss showed up... :( Not sure how to figure out which of the 8 is bad... waiting for wisdom from the web. :) in other news: TODAY'S INTERNET INSIGHT We can cross out "improved security" as the incentive that will drive Windows XP deployment in the enterprise. These guys know parts, suppliers, prices, etc. Any chance you can take the crank out and have it turned and polished ? Otherwise, check the internet, you can get whole rebuilt transmissions on-line. A crankshaft doesn't seem unrealistic. Landon > The mains are gone on the 360. > Have most of the part in the garage for a 304 but do not want to do a motor > swap. (2nd week of project) Saturday while I'm waiting for my "to-be-installed" GM turbo-350 tranny to be rebuilt, I set out to install a 3" body list from Performance Accessories. They sold me the kit for J10's from I think 71-87 or something like that. I confirmed with them before they sent it that it had 14 lift points that I needed. The kit did have enough blocks, but the bolts were a problem. All the bolts were too long, and were measly grade 4. Cost me another 20 bucks to get grade 8's in the correct lengths (4"). Installation went pretty well, maybe 6 hours (not counting time running to the hardware store for bolts.) I encountered 3 stripped bolt-heads. Two were easy to ViseGrip and remove because I'd already pulled out parts of the rusty floor pans. The third one was a turd to get at. At the back of the rig, two inches under the small access hole. I had to pop some welds and cut an opening to vise-grip it. After all that, and four laborious turns, 1/8 turn at a time all the while regripping the visegrip, it sheared off. I bled. Then when jacking the body off the frame I had to remove the rear bumper to gain clearance, and all 4 bolts sheared there too. (I bled more) Two of the stock 1/2 inch body mounts were missing, so those were easy to remove. The only bad thing with the whole operation is that stupid me broke the linkage between the steering column and steering box when I jacked up the body. After rereading the instructions, I read the part where they say to drop the column. Oh well I wanted to upgrade the steering anyway. By the way, the rig looks good lifted. Now that the body lift is in, I shouldn't have any clearance issues with the GM-350 install, so motor mounts are next. Hopefully I can get a welder to come out to help with that this week. Does anyone have advice on chevy-350 motor mounts? I guess it needed one more inch of play. I think I can just drop it down one inch and get a new rubber piece and maybe nuts and bolts to be steering again before i go to the hassle of doing power steering swap. The real pisser is that after I re-read the instructions for the 'cab-portion' of the body lift it said to check it for clearance. I got distracted reading the bed-only part that pretty much just said unbolt, lift, realign, rebolt, and thinking the bad and cab are all the same piece in a wagoneer! I was freaking out tonight... my '99 WJ is down with a bad coil and all of a sudden my '77 Cherokee starts acting up... coil wires??? it behaved poorly until warmed up this morning.... coming home same thing... So I went under the hood and found what is certainly not the worst FSJ wiring I've ever seen, but certainly some very perplexing stuff... I didn't bother taking pictures... it'll be better for you to imagine... ;) Anyway, I didn't even bother to sort it out and fix it, just grabbed electrical tape and secured things in place... Did find that the #1 spark plug coil left the connector on the plug and the wire dangling... spent about 30 minutes wandering through my muddy shop trying to find my old plug wires, then realized that in one of those moments of insanity I'd packed all that stuff up and shipped it off... I hate when I clean my shop... I search for stuff I gave, sold or threw away for years to come... :) Anyway, found some old jacobs wires for an XJ, but they won't do me any good on a 360... so I just stuck the connector in the boot, could see it was against the wire, put it back on and it's running smooth and strong... went to the grocery store and the lights didn't flicker, the alternator didn't jump around and it didn't miss... Now, if I can just get my coil situation on the '99 WJ figured out I'll use this as a reason why I shouldn't be allowed to work on my Jeeps anymore and let the wife budget mechanic costs. :) Especially on HER jeep... I'll stick to installing speakers, fog lights and maybe an occasional oil check and washing... ;) Wish I'd gotten a quieter muffler on the '77 Cherokee... the glass pack may give me better mileage... but it's still too loud... of course my son approves, and since it'll be his in a few months (I hope and pray) the only time it'll bother me is when he's coming and going. ;) later, john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #1540 **************************
