I'm probably better off for it. I wanted to move the motor mount towers near the shock towers. Turns out that the motor towers bolt-up to existing frame holes for the front shock towers, so I relocated them back about four inches..no welding required. But the motor still does not reach the stand-offs...falls right between them. no problem I say...so I make some cardboard mock-ups of a plate to go between them, and off to the machine shop I go. I thought I had a genius piece of fabrication in my hands...they just laughed. Said it would break sure as sh*t. As I tell them more about my project, and they whip out some 2,000 page catalog and there it was...for only 70 bucks...a motor mount kit for 350 conversions that just bolts to the frame...and has a cross member with the stand-offs at the required position. I just need to attach the ends of the supplied brackets to the frame of the Wag..maybe some drilling...that and hope it doesn't have any clearance issues with the axle and steering. It's supposed to ship UPS this week, so maybe I'll have the motor mounted by next weekend. I seem to remember having said that before. For seventy bucks, if it works, I'll be better off than paying a welder. I bet it will look better too. Otherwise, I got the intake manifold reinstalled on the 350, and have eye-hooks for to hang it from the chain, instead of removing a short bolt, and putting a longer bolt through the chain like I was doing. Need to do the carb, but the chain is in the way...have to get motor mounts done first. I'm still working on fixing the steering...I broke the rag-joint last weekend doing a body lift. I may abandon the wag steering box...top shaft is stripped and missing some splines, a gasket on it seems blown out, and it might be in the way of the driver-side exhaust header. Again, I need to wait for the motor to be mounted. Does anyone have advice on removing the brake drums? On my s-10 they'll pull right off if I remove the wheel. The Wag's drums won't budge though. more to come... thanks, Jeff This electronic message transmission, including any attachments, contains information from Prescription Solutions which may be confidential or privileged. The valve directs heated air to the intake manifold for rapid fuel vaporization during engine warm up. It consists of a counterweight, bimetallic coil and the valve. The one on my '77 Cherokee was leaking out the "bushings". So I dropped it out tonight... the bimetallic coil was broken and the bushings were pretty loose, and the casting was cracked. I just sold the one I had. :( So I decided to make "temporary" repairs. I cut off the shaft on the valve and removed all that junk. Then I found a couple of bolts that would fit in the "bushings". While trying to tighten them down the casting completely split apart. Ok, no big deal, I can always drive the wife's Jeep, if she'll let me.. ;) So I grabbed the JB Weld that's been hanging on my bench for, oh, about 6 years, and tried to squeeze some out... it's about 30 to 35 degrees outside... Anyway, after much effort I did get some out and applied it to the castings and around the bolts, tightened the bolts up and then made sure I had a "seal" of JB weld, or whatever that substance was... kind of like a clay... and put it around the bolts on the inside. The nuts were on the outside... (I include myself in that inventory). I ran the bolts back in and carefully tightened them down... nothing broke... on that side... The other side one of the studs broke when I tried to loosen it, one is holding... Guess I need to find that set of exhaust manifolds I had laying around here for the 360 that I thought I'd never use... rofl... Anyway, despite the fact that the instructions said wait 5 to 6 hours before doing anything to the repair (this must not have been the fast setting JB weld, eh?) I fired up the engine... hey, it didn't sound as noisey... so I shut it off and am hoping that I won't be arrested on the drive home tomorrow when the entire exhaust system drops from under the Jeep and I'm driving around with open manifolds. I think I know where there is another set of manifolds and an other heat valve... The last time I had trouble with one of these heat valves I welded the shaft in place. Problem is welding on cast doesn't always result in a permanent weld... I got lucky last time and didn't feel like dragging 60 feet of extension cord out to fire up the buzz box tonight. :) We'll see how long this lasts... :) (no pictures, can ya believe it? ;) later, john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2002 13:51:36 GMT From: Ken Gaines Subject: fsj: TF727 noise Morning all... One quick problem for you all...Has anyone ever heard an automatic transmission whistle? It was the strangest thing. I was driving to work this morning and when I got ALMOST to Texas A&M, the transmission (1985 TF727) started to make a whistling noise ONLY at certain engine RPMs. I am guessing that this is bad. I set the kickdown on the thing so that it has shift points like this: 1-2 upshift -at- 25mph 2-3 upshift -at- 35mph The downshift points are roughly the same. Should I open it up some more so that it shifts at lower speeds? I will say that my truck has rather low gears in it as I am getting about 3800rpm at 60mph. That will soon be fixed with the installation of larger tires and a new set of 3.31 R/P sets for the axles. Okay...I said this would be quick...so I am off to make coffee for the crowd here at the new job...Texas Parks and Wildlife Department-Resource Protection Division. Hope everyone out there in FSJ-land has a great day. O)||||||(O Keep on Jeepin'...
