Yeah, we've always had pretty dismal mid-duty diesel options here. There were some, but not many at all. > After owning 4 MBs and about 20+ Jeeps, it would be a no brainer, > I'd pay more for the Jeep. :) I'd have to disagree with you there, actually I probably would pass on both. I wouldn't use a WJ or M-class benz for an off road rig, which puts it at pretty much a tall car. If I want a car, I'll get a 450SEL, 300SD, crown victoria, etc, not a truck, and if I want a truck, it'll be a much bigger truck. The M-class is certainly too much car to go anywhere that isn't a graded fire road, and the WJ's I've driven disappoint me. Sure, they're impressive vehicles, but they're nowhere near as solid as an old full size cherokee. I also don't need a PHD, computer, and a few hundred dollars worth of sensors for WHEN something goes amiss out in the desert. Might have trouble draining it first if there's still fluid in it. Otherwise, would drain mostly when you take off the lower big hose -- so might go all over the ground. Not the best idea in the world if you can avoid it. Anyway, IIRC, you just remove the two big radiator hoses (one on the bottom, one on the top) and the two little transmission cooler lines (at the bottom), and take the breather hose (the one where the radiator cap is) from the overflow tank if you have one. Then remove probably four bolts and that's it -- the radiator (and shroud if there is one) should lift right out. That may not be absolutely correct in every detail, as I've only replaced two of them and the last one was about two years ago, but it's pretty close, and it's pretty straightforward, and the front end sitting on the ground really shouldn't affect anything except trying to drain it. (If it's not already empty and you _didn't_ care about the lower radiator hose, you might be able to cut a hole in that hose and jam the tube from a siphon in there (possibly with a nozzle on the end to let you force it in), then pump all the fluid out into a bucket. You could at least use the siphon to get a fair amount of the fluid out from the top of the radiator.) {- I'd like to get the steering box out of it, but since its on the {- ground that might be an issue.... Yeah, that I'd be a little less excited about doing. May still be possible without TOO much trouble, but I'd have to take a closer look. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > 05:00:00 - Cerebral system shutdown for scheduled backup. > 05:00:01 - Full system backup completed successfully.
