Hi Guys/Gals I need to figure out a good way to get a set of cherokee quarter panels from Detroit to Minneapolis, I won a set on ebay and Raodway wants $200 for shipping Ouch ! It seems like the shipping industry is a pretty closed network you either have contacts or you are hit in the pocket book real hard, so I guess I am looking for ideas here. Thanks Mike D. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Feb 2002 07:29:16 -0800 (PST) From: Greg Loxtercamp Subject: Re: fsj: Ideas on shipping q panels from Detroit to Minniapolis ? Amtrak. Thanks Greg, It looks like Amtrak charges ~ $0.33 per lb. and normalizes to a "normal" weight for light weight large packages. Mike D. Greg Loxtercamp wrote: > > Amtrak. It's possible some other tranny's parts were accidently tossed in the mix (drove me crazy first time !) From: Ken Gaines Jim, I got the kit for my TF727 yesterday. It came with clutches, seals, thrust washers, o-rings, etc. The new converter will be in tomorrow morning. I was kinda disappointed that it didn't come with bands like the guy at the parts house said it did, but, oh well. Cost? $170 TOTAL. Anyway, here's what the kit has. It came with 8 clutch discs that are grooved on the friction surfaces. Within that number, 4 are grooved with wide spacing between the grooves and 4 are grooved with narrow spacing between the grooves. The clutches are made by Raybestos. The o-rings are of LOTS of different sizes. The gaskets that the kit included are the pan gasket, pump gasket, and valve body gasket. There are some little gaskets that are coated with the same stuff that exhaust donuts are coated with. (To be perfectly honest, I don't remember ever having seen these in a overhaul kit for a TF727. The package says Motorcraft on it. Any ideas out there? They're kinda rectangular with rounded ends, two circular holes at the ends and a square hole in the middle.) The kit included two lip seals: one for the front pump and another that looks like it goes to the tailshaft housing/output shaft. There are also several new lock washers for the front pump bolts and about 10 new lock rings for the planetary gear sets. So, there you have it. I am about to go where few dare to tread: the great void in the internals of an automatic transmission. Wish me luck as I embark on this daring journey. Hi Mike, How much of the quarter panel is it? Small enough to go in a large box? Or can you sandwich them between two sheets of 1/4" plywood, use 1x2's or 1x4's for bracing as needed... If they are large parts that are "pallet sized" then the $200 is a good number. Our freight forwarders (Pilot Airfreight) charge us $165.00 from Memphis to any place in the U.S. and we ship $250K worth of junk a year, so we get a reasonably good price. $200.00 to the average Joe doesn't sound out of line to me. For small freight we use FedEx Express and they COULD be cheaper if you can put these parts between 2 pieces of real heavy triple wall cardboard or light wood sheets for protection. Wrapped with bubble wrap of course. Or if they were small enough to put in a large cardboard box with some bags of air or stuffed with wadded newspapers to cushion them and keep them stable in the box for shipping. If the box gets too big, then it becomes a matter of size not weight re: the shipping charge. Also you can ship FedEx Ground (used to be Roadway Package Service (RPS)) and that is much cheaper than Express. Not sure re: handling though. I think FedEx Ground tends to be a little rougher on things than the Express services. They share a name but are really different organizations. What you'll probably find is if you try to package them somehow so you can ship them by services like UPS, FedEx, Airborne, then what you saved on the shipping you will have spent on packaging. I would not ship the sheetmetal at all without protection on it of some sort. Even if by Roadway, those guys will bang the crap out of your parts, and don't bother insuring them. There is rarely anything they will pay for re: damage. Especially a piece of sheetmetal with no padding or support to it. Moving big pieces isn't cheap, no matter what they weigh. Volume begets discounts, so yup, the little guy pays standard rates. Maybe it would be cheap to ship via NorthWest Packaging Service.... Detroit and Minneapolis are both hubs for NWAirlines... ought to be no shortage of flights in and out... Are you in MN? Do you know anyone at NWAir? May be there's a way to move things between airports via ground methods? On the other hand, 700 miles x2 ought to run about $130 or so in gas, plus a hotel and eats, so ya see, it just DOES cost $200 to move those puppies... Hope there's something useful in there for you. Good Luck. The other lever that you have, obviously from an NP219, or if your wag was a low class model, the NP208, will work for the 4wd high/low - neutral function. Now I am at a loss. Not only does this thing not run any better but it also won^Rt turn off. When I turn the ignition off it just keeps running! (I have to pop the hood and unplug the MSD) I hooked it up according to the instructions. I spliced into the connector on the distributor using the magnetic pickup trigger. Used the harness to hook up to the TFI and did not use the white trigger wire (which would go to the negative terminal on the coil connector if not using the magnetic pickup trigger). Wondering if any of you guys have put an MSD on your FSJ^Rs and if you have any tips for me. Also need to know what I should gap my plugs to? I don^Rt even know what to time this thing to, any suggestions on that? Is there another place I might look online for such information, specific to MSD and TFI on a Wagoneer. Last thing, my vacuum advance on my distributor is shot. Checker and Autozone can^Rt even order them. What have you guys done if they needed replacing? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this thing is my daily driver and I seemed to have spent a lot of money just to screw it up more :( Please email me directly if at all possible.
