A: Are you anywhere close to Seattle? Check out the pics of Blackie on John's website and let me know what you think of the (maybe) stock springs on it (it may have been lifted already as it clears with enough room for my 33" tires) I made another dent in the garage today, and will be again on friday (my father's funeral is tomorrow) Once the air compressor is gone, I'll be able to pull Black Jack 1/2 way in or more! From: "Daniel Beiers" Guys, well i noticed awhile back that one of my front springs has a kink in it. its actually bent near the rear spring mount. i was hoping to replace it with a stock spring but i would have to do both front springs, matched set. i am also planning on towing with my wagon and the rear springs have a little sag in them, so i would probably need to replace both of those too. which leads me to a lift kit for the waggie. i figure if i am replacing all four springs may as well get the wagon up a little higher. this is my driver (not right now because i screwed up the ignition system). i have 31" pirellis (sp?) on it which are new and will stay for at least another 30,000 miles. i am looking for something in the 2" to 3" lift range. i doubt if this thing will ever see a rock bigger than a bowling ball so please, no soa conversion or big spring lift suggestions :) what manufacturers should i be looking at? I would like to not compromise ride but I am also looking for a good price. meaning if the softest and flexiest springs out there are also the most expensive i won't be getting those :) i guess i am compromising those two...soft ride and price. anyway any suggestions or testimonials are greatly appreciated. If I get the lift on and the sled running good I will likely wheel Ouray in the Wagoneer...I just can't break it, that's what my CJ is for :) thanks a lot guys, Dan ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 Comanche http://www.geocities.com/eaglemania2002/ http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13998 ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2002 20:20:36 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: guess who surfaced! :) We were just discussing Mark Wallace (wallacem7-at-aol.com) the other day... and voila, he surfaces. :) It was his idea to meet in Ouray for the 40th Anniversary of the FSJ. Sounds good and, like a car wash, makes it run better too. I'm liking this rig more and more. I visited the pull-a-part yard and snagged an under car spare tire carrier from a '67 Dodge PU, which is now installed. I've decided to stick with the original 16" x 6" steel disk wheels, which are now equipped with 7.00 x 16 LT 6 ply rating nylon lug tires. I'm thinking about replacement tires that would sing less, and wonder what the list would recommend as the largest section I should fit on these relatively narrow rims. Off road clearance is not an issue -- the slippery place at the beauty bark yard is about as tough as it gets for this old veteran. A friend of mine has a 999 with what he says is a Klune V unit on it. He wants to know if the Klune V from the 999 will bolt onto the 727 he wants to put in his CJ7. Does anyone know if this is possible? I have no idea. Thanks. I don't think that's gonna be enough for you though. Forget about using '74 and later springs. If you manage to make it work (many others have tried) it probably won't have been worth the effort. My recollection is that my '71 springs are the same width as '74 springs, but nothing else is similar. Custom springs are in the same price range as a lift kit and would probably work better anyway. FWIW, late Kaiser era specs show: Front springs 7 leaves, 44" long, 2.5" wide, 160 lb rate Rear springs 5 leaves, 52" long, 2.5" wide, 140 or 250 lb rate.
