Alex, There should be a tag on the back of the t-case, somewhere around the middle. It's often brightly colored anodized aluminum - under the grease and dirt, that is. If memory serves, it was the BW1356 t-case in '92. I think it was '93 that they started using the NP200. For all things Ford truck related, go here: Ben Williams '71 Wagoneer '78 F-250 4x4 '88 Bronco >Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 18:49:37 -0700 (PDT) >From: Alexander Wall > > Please do not ban me! I thought that someone had created a special list somewhere else for stuff like this... ;) anyway... Speaking of Full Size Jeeps... I'm working on the final details of the SuperDawg project and hope to be driving him in a few weeks... He was supposed to be done last Labor day but my friend had to move and went through what might be considered something suitable for a Chevy Chase movie on home buying... :) But he's back on the project... SuperDawg is my '83 J10 Stepside. He's getting a '96 4.0L HO out of an XJ Cherokee, using the Aisin Warner 4 speed automatic and instrument cluster from the '96. Making a custom adapter to mate an NP219 to the AW4. Keeping the stock axles/gears (3.31s). 2" body lift, about 2" of spring lift, leather seats from an import sedan, auxillary tank, am/fm/sw/cassette w/10disc cd changer, CB/weather radio and CB radio, sunroof, a/c, ps, cruise, tilt, brushguard with IPF lights, michelin ATX tires, slotted alloys from a late 70's SJ... and so on... Decided on using the WJ Woodland Brown color. I've toyed around with the idea of a Cummins Diesel, found an A series that would have been nice, but it's too late in the project and even Cummins recommended using the 5.9L instead of the 3.4L that I'd found. Still haven't fixed my driveway/shop to bring home my '75 J10. The back end will become a trailer, the front cab might find it's way to a Wagoneer chassis and get a Diesel... maybe... :) john - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com often via PINE on Linux ** (prefer plain text emails please!) ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ...and remember, leaving life without Jesus just isn't recommended... - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 22:05:57 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: "Lucky" is home, but still comatose A: Sounds like they were on the high side when they measured the power on the MSD (take that as you like! ) Not sure about the Ford, but someplace between '99 and '85 they went from New Process to the Borg Warner (what my wife's '99 Ranger has) equivalent to NP208. Look for the round tag on the back (check Sea-Tac trans for overhaul. They wanted $500 for a NP229 or NP208 if I brought it in) From: Alexander Wall Subject: fsj: "Lucky" is home, but still comatose... Please do not ban me! They said the MSD had such a bad dead-ground that it kept burning up their test-lights. I don't think the MSD caused the fusible-link to burn, but evidently the MSD was cooked in the process. They said they couldn't test any further without a new MSD, so I took the rig home. Debating putting the original ignition back in, just to get back on the road. It has a nice low burble at idle, burble is not the right word, just a low tone, and could be louder at speed. Jeep seems to be running a bit better, acceleration, response on the highway, and on/off throttle transition is smoother (could be the exhaust is keeping the drivetrain from rocking on old motor mounts. Anyway, $170 later, and seems like money well spent. If I ever go to a better cam/valvetrain, at least we're ready on the exhaust side. - - Landon '89 GW Austin ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 08:51:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason D Subject: Re: fsj: "Lucky" is home, but still comatose... Yes, it has grown and become more popular. Scale can be an enemy if those out four-wheeling are ignorant about how to participate responsibly. I appreciate and share your concern for the environment. I go four-wheeling because I enjoy nature and I ususally come home with a lot of trash that I pulled off the trails. Many four-wheelers as you know do trail cleanups so we're not alone in this. When we're all in Ouray I want to encourage everyone to respect the environment, to NOT step on the delicate alpine tundra, to stay on the trail, to clean things up, and so on. I think the numbers can work to our advantage - -- if we each educate those around us. The trails in the San Juan mountains receive a lot of traffic just from regular visitors as well as the Jeep Jamborees and other four-wheeling clubs. Some of the visitors are ignorant about how to protect the trails they drive on and do more to damage it than anything. The infamous Texans drove way off trail up a steep mountain slope, nearly killed themselves and destroyed plenty of tundra in the process. Most visitors just use common sense and harm nothing. A few make things nicer than when they left them. I think we can and must be among the latter two groups. My personal belief is that if we are to preserve the environment, we should do it by fighting development, not fighting outdoor enthusiasts. Michael Tesar Landon-r16884 wrote: > Kevin has the idea. I'm concerned that there will be too many running around on these trails, a fee reduces the numbers and 'should' support the hobby.
