Admiral I could have written that note, 'cept the wife wants a Toyota Sequoia. Just a 4x2, but I have to admit I think it's kinda purty....I just don't know which boyfriend she'll get the money for it from...LOL...we've got the 3 kids getting teen sized and 4 dogs all of which are kept on a short leashes, so the Excursion is not off the table...quite yet... more likely these will both be well outside the range of possibilities for our budget... I looked at Wagonmaster's site, but I couldn't talk her into $15-20K for a 10 year old truck...but I'm still workin' on her... it's either another SJ or a 1-2 year old Honda Odessey...nnnNNNNOOOOOO!!! (grin) but those are "in the budget range". Hey and there's a J20 with a camper in the Memphis Trader with a 401 if anyone needs one...I think I understood 401's are getting harder to come by... If anyone has any opinions about any of the above mentioned alternative rides, please let me know. JeepNut "B. Admiral Brian, Sir. While I consider myself a Ford fan as well as a Jeep fan, my knowledge of such new-fangled beast is almost non-existant. It may be that you can get hooked up with the right folks through the message boards at the Ford Truck Enthusiasts website. Unfortunately, the mailing lists they used to have are all pretty much dead - as far as I can tell. Maybe message boards are the wave of the future. Oil pressure on my Wag is at the low end of the scale, this is with a mechanical Stuart Warner guage Startup - 60 psi, fast or slow idle. Hot - 38 psi at 65mph(2100?) rpm 9 psi idle in gear, 12 psi idle in park/neutral. These specs are down a bit from last year when I was seeing 47 psi at cruise. The engine has 45K on rebuild. No idea what 'kind' of rebuild. It does not rattle on cold/warm start up, though it did when I had 20W-50 in it last fall. I would think the rear main seal would be an obvious(bigger than usual) mess. Also, not burning oil, just a little past the valve seals on warm start. So my thoughts are (in order of expense) 1. Verify connections to guage 2. New/revised Oil pressure relief spring 3. Replace the rear main seal 4. Rebuild the oil pump 5. Rebuild the oil pump housing 6. Rebuild the engine/oiling mods Anywhere else I should be looking or experience here? - - Landon 89 GW Austin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2002 10:23:42 -0700 From: Cyrus Salam Subject: fsj: recommend a GW mechanic in the bay area \ east bay ... all, am looking for a mechanic recommendation ... i live on the berkeley\oakland line ... the closer the better ... have an '86 GW 360 ... it's in decent shape ... just needs some general work that i either can't do or can't do on the side of the street [i'm an apartment dweller] ... work outstanding ... - new leaf springs - exhaust manifold gasket, possibly manifold - check\repair vacuum leaks - repack axle bearings - minor fluid leaks - electrical troubleshooting and whatever comes up ... just need to keep it road worthy ... it's mostly stock, 50k on a new block, generally take it on camps, light off roading ... prefer a mechanic with FSJ\GW experience who can look ahead and do his best to keep me being stranded in central nevada ... c.s. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2002 13:19:24 -0600 From: "JC Jones" Subject: fsj: RE: dry season concerns? Even though many parts of the San Juan Mountains are above treeline there are still plenty of trees in the area. Attendees will need to learn about fire safety and prevention and they will have to be very careful about campfires, smoking, etc. I'll add safety tips to the prepare section of the 2002 website and in newsletters and we'll also provide this information in the hand-out goodie bags people will get when they arrive and sign-in. In the meantime, remember, "Only you can prevent wildfires" - http://www.smokeybear.com/. You can find information about the San Juan National Forest and retrieve fire information here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/sanjuan/ You can get tips on fire safety here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/sanjuan/bulletin_board/july4.htm Michael john wrote: > is Ouray going to be dry and a fire hazard? > > this link might wrap, talks about an 800 acre fire > NW of Ft.
