Yup, you're right, it's the venerable Dodge Power Wagon. The military FSJ, the M715 (and family), was produced in the late 60's. Michael - --- Michael E. While crawling around under the 84 GW over the weekend, I discovered one end of a linkage hanging loose. This was because the plastic retainer which should've been in the hole of an arm at that end was gone. I removed the link rod at the other end, removed its retainer, couldn't find a replacement at any of the "mass market" auto parts stores in the immediate area, took the parts to the dealer's parts department, and got a retainer insert which I had to "+" cut with a cutting wheel on the "dremel" tool so it'd spread out when the rod was inserted in it then snap shut on the rod end. Getting the retainer back in the hole at the forward end was easy. Getting one into that at the rearward end was a ... but I got it done and got the rod snapped into both. It apparently has something to do with the transfer case because the parts man asked me which one I had (NP-229) to get the right part. Unfortunately it didn't fix my problem of not being able to get the GW into 4WD (and I really wasn't expecting it to unless it had something to do with the vacuum system because I'm not hearing any hissing sounds from the 4WD/2WD switch when it's moved). What did I fix??? It might be a whole lot easier if I'd been able to have the vehicle on a hoist instead of peering up into it from a few inches away on the ground. The rearward "lever" into which the rod fit was up above the transmission pan, so that I had to reach in from the front to get the grommet into it; and it wasn't easy. > Is the tranny shifting differently? If so you fixed the throttle linkage. > Otherwise I've no clue. > Michael I've not noticed any difference in anything since making the reconnection, but I've not tested the kickdown.
