It's a nice single lid crossover unit, p/n 5600, the "challenger": (thanx bill!) http://www.deflectashield.com/products/boxes/challengerbox.html So, the superdawg plans progress... we'll use diamond plating sheet to cover the rest of the bed so it'll all be dry and secure. Think we're going to put the batteries under the toolbox in the bed. Using dual batteries, placing them in the bed will further benefit the weight distribution and balance... xfr case sits back further, aux fuel in the back... a lighter engine in the front... this thing was pretty nose heavy, as is any pickup. Of course I prefer the J10 over the wagoneer because it is lighter overall... :) We do have a functioning adapter to mate Aisin Warner 30-80LEs with any of the older style NP xfr cases, NP219, NP208 and NP228/9. It wasn't cheap... in fact if I'd known the adapter was going to cost this much I would have bought an NP242 from a '96 XJ and modified my driveshafts... which I have to do anyway... Oh well, the NP219 is a beefier xfr case then the 242 and will help solve the weight distribution issue on the pickup on wet roads... full time, all the time, and with an emergency lock feature, and a low range of 2.62:1... :) Anyway, anybody considering putting a newer engine/trans in their FSJ we have the piece figured out to mate old with new... probably sell 'em for around $350 if you're interested... BTW, in case you haven't been following the story, SuperDawg, a 1983 J10 Stepside is getting a full frame off resto with a '96 XJ 4.0L HO I-6 engine and 4speed automatic overdrive coupled to an FSJ type xfr case, Quadratrac NP219. I've selected a WJ Grand Cherokee color from 2001/2002 called Woodland Brown Satin Glow. It has about 2 to 4 inches of spring lift, 2" body lift, Michelin LTX AT 235's siped on older style Jeep Wagoneer alloy slotted rims. It has a sunroof out of an '89 xj cherokee. The instrument cluster and steering column will be out of the '96 xj as well, with some mods... Has the factory brush guard, IPF lights across the front, Scotty killer32 3" extended nerf bars to protect the side and offer a step up into the cab. New carpet from 1aa autorestore (medium beige), and a Sony xplod am/fm/sw cassette with a 10 cd changer, alarm system and remote starter... :) So this thing will have SJ, XJ and WJ in it... :) This isn't quite as diverse as the '67 Wagoneer that landed me in Four Wheeler mag's Garage Scenes in 1991... ;) That one had VW, Volvo, Ford, Buick, Oldsmobile and Mercedes parts in it along with Jeep stuff... SuperDawg is almost 100% Jeep, only things non-Jeep are the front seats. :) They're leather out of some japanese luxury sedan... not sure which one, the wrecking yard isn't sure either... :) but they fit nicely and don't take up much space... I'd love to have the WJ leather seats in the cab, especially with the heaters... but there just isn't enough cab space... I had leather seats from a GW in there and you couldn't get 'em back far enough... I saw a super nice '67 230SL for sale on the way to looking at toolboxes... $8k... of course my wife said, sell your truck and buy it... You know, I don't think she likes SuperDawg nearly as much as I do... ;) btw, I've been connected to the internet with this sony vaio for 22 hrs and 40 minutes! I think it's been up and running w2k (aka nt 5) for about 26 hours now... :) all I need is the w2k version of intervideo dvd and I'm set... the xp version won't work no more... (and that annoying sony dial thing on the touch pad doesn't work either... too bad... :) I've got a bunch of stuff running too... look ma, no crashes! xp must stand for extra pain... :) later, john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jun 2002 21:23:58 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: update... A: I told you before the NP219 was about 5" longer than NP208. Let me know what length shaft you need and I may have one. I've been playing with Black Jack in and out of the rain today. Anyone need a J10 M20 with 2.72 gears? (Dana 44 with trash-loc is in, but needs new spider gears I found out) From: john Subject: fsj: update... just a quick update... thanx to all who offered help with the sony vaio xp ordeal... I've given up on xp and have w2k pro loaded, so far so good. the only thing I'm missing is a version of intervideo windvd (3.1) for w2k, I've got the one for xp... anyone able to help with some sort of dvd reader/player? so far w2k has been up and running for almost 24hrs without so much as a blip... I setup mozilla, downloaded netscape 7.0, and have been doing all the normal stuff on this that didn't seem to work on XP... SUPERDAWG update: http://wagoneers.com/tmp/SuperDawg the motor is in the chassis for fit. turns out the aw4 is 5" longer then the t-5, the adapter we're building is almost 2" longer and the np219 is another 2 or so inches longer then the np208... meaning about 8" worth of driveshaft mods are needed. This will work out good as the weight is moved further back in the chassis... :) still trying to decide what to do with the bed, looking for a two lid crossover toolbox that will fit within the 48" bed, ford/chev stepsides have a model available that's 46" that will work... but they're spendy new... so I'm looking around... either that or I may go with a canopy... not sure which way to go... thanx again for the help with the computer... I can live without the DVD player... :) it's nice to have a stable system again... john ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jun 2002 21:35:05 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: [none] A: Been a busy day. We swapped the rear axle from the parts J10 into Black Jack (turns out it is a trash lock D44 with 4.10, but needs new spider gears. Fortunately I have some if the ones from an open carrier D44 will fit) I have a nice pic of it with the rear blocks in (parts rig had 2.5" steel blocks and the front has a matching spring lift) Anyone wanting a pic drop me a line at carnuck -at-webtv.net (take out the space) Wish I had time to get the USB cable for my camera! I still need to get a bigger memory stick for Ouray! http://www.virtualjeep.com/ Black Jack's before pic http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/JimBlair/JimBlairs-J10.jpg ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 12:55:54 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: Lift kit shipping charges At 10:56 AM 6/19/2002 -0700, Jim Sterling wrote: >I need some help guys and gals. I shipped a QT, th400, steering column and who knows whatelse was on that pallet, via truck from WA to CO for around $200, or was it less??? springs are heavy, and springs are long... UPS isn't likely to ship them... fedex might, hard to say... john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 15:43:52 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: re: OXtrax At 08:37 AM 6/20/2002 +1000, adam-at-cstgroup.com.au wrote: >I think it is www.oxtrax.com http://www.oxtrax.com/oxlockerfile/oxpages/oxindex1.html that's it, thanx... john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Jun 2002 09:17:28 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: Benz swaps t 05:05 AM 6/20/2002 -0700, mark gallihue wrote: >Saw your comments on putting MB engines in Scouts and >such. The pathfinders aren't any where near as heavy as a Scout so it'd work nicely. I just bought a '76 Datsun 280Z.. was looking under the hood and thinking, hmmmm... a 3.0L Mercedes Turbo Diesel coupled to the 4speed automatic would easily get me 35mpg... Talked to one friend and he said he couldn't let me do that. He mentioned a 350 v8 conversion and I said, YEAH, a 5.7L Diesel would be even better... (I don't remember his EXACT comments, but there was moaning on the other end of the line... ;) Anyway, it's just a temporary commuter until my '83 J10 is done getting it's '96 4.0L HO xj type motor and fresh paint. The only reason I bought the Z car was because it was cheap and had an automatic transmission. :) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #1670 **************************
