It's almost 94 out there, but there was a slight breeze that kept me just cool enough. Now I'm off to get it done and pickup my spring-pads and extended brake hoses. Hopefully I won't get caught in crush hour traffic with no AC like I did yesterday! Anyone need '75 J10 axle parts? I have the still decent brake rotors (with locking hubs and bearings) as well as the axle shafts and will have the tube ready to sell separate (my son wants to go with a '74-'79 narrowtrack front axle on his '68 Wag) The 4.10 gears and posi are going in my J10 (Unless someone gets ahold of me quick with an offer in the $200 range for the complete but partially disassembled '75 front axle), so I will have 2.72 gears to sell from my front diff, and a complete M20 rear axle. I'm still considering putting a front D60 axle under the back of Black Jack so I can hook up rear steering too! Don wrote: Magnet didn't work. The barbecue fork with the tines spread just-so held the axle lined up with th hub hole and, after I took the diff out, she slid right out-after a couple ajustments of the fork! About the diff: I just unbolted it and dropped it on my chest. Put it back in, tightened bolts. Q. Is there any ajustment/alignment that should be done? There is a little play in the pinion, maybe 1/4"... I just got my axles overnighted from Florida, for a princely sum...But I got 'em... More Unobtanium. If you are looking, investigating, playing with the oil pump, make sure you put petroleum jelly in the gear cavity - stuff it in there - or it will not prime on start up. Also - key - do this with the engine cold - any idea what heat does to vaseline ? It makes it fall out of the oil pump cavity and onto your driveway. and then you have to go to sleep and wait for the truck to cool down, and wonder if you'll ever have oil pressure again, and worry that you damaged the engine by starting it with no oil, and....you get the idea. Actually, the vaseline helps hold the idler gear in place, otherwise it falls out before you get the cover on. Neat to see how the inside walls of the timing cover get scuffed up by the oil pump gears.... - - Landon '89 GW 360 V8 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 17:52:32 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: fsj: Re: Gears? -was- Any 4-by outings? A: I get to play "Gear man" for the next day or so on my D44 for Black Jack (haven't done this for almost 20 years, so it should be fun to recall!) I'm pulling the 2.72 open out, and putting in 4.10 with a locker (I think. Hopefully it wasn't Lincoln locked or I'll be just swapping in a different set that is open) I finally got my '75 J10 steering knuckle off (those tiny screws on the old style Warn locking hubs can be a real pain w/o a 7/64 allen wrench! I got them with a T-15 Torx and a hammer finally) I HAVE to get them ready to go for 3 weeks from now! AAAUUUGGHH! I still have to wire up the EFI and put the AW4 and new transfercase in. The new 5" lift springs for the rear will be ready next week, and I'll STILL have to figure out driveshaft lengths and exhaust! Good thing my son is helping me! From: "Phil" Subject: Gears? -was- Any 4-by outings? Chris, are you adept at setting up R&P's? Why am I a nervous nellie, biting my nails? oh well.. Any way.. I am now back from the PPA ( professional Photographer's convention ( national) that was in Atlantic City NJ) We also went to Philly, Long wood gardens, visited my parents, in Wilmington DE. ( where the cops would love to get a hold of me .. hehehe.. not this Rooster!) ( I even drove in DE!) Also went to New york city, My first time!, Went to to see the Great big hole in the ground of, Ground zero. And the Metro museum of Art, ( Where Katherine's older Cousin Olga, who has worked there for 50 years, is like the very Head Curator of the whole Museum!) who bought us a very nice $65.00 lunch at the posh Museum restaurant, and got us in free! Saw the sights galore, times square at night, Central park, street performances, free Counting Crows concert, for Good Morning America. then to Atlantic City NJ... Casinos... were nice but we did not gamble. but we some really good cheese steaks and gyros on the boardwalk! Man. where they good! ( we even asked and got some recipes!).. It has been years since I have had one! Now for the mandatory FSJ.. I was driving the Volvo, But as usual, I had the FSJ flyers in the Glove box So I ran across two Mid 80 GW's in Seaside Heights NJ 20 min apart, and I personally handed them a flyer! The next one, was just off the Belt way, in Washington D.C. another mid 80 GW.. So always keep a flyer handy in every car! Now I will be driving to Ouray, my little, very nice, and fast, Honda prelude, a 92 it is silver, so if you see it with a alabama plate.. you'll know it's me.. I still need to get a vanity tag for it soon, but think of a good 7 letter one? can you? one that fits me good? oh I still need a ride for the trails when I get there, please god!, don't let me be stuck with the old lady!!!! His name is Shawn. He is in a coma, left eye optical nerve severed, but no broken bones. He had just dropped off his little girl in Marysville (about 15 miles to the north) and was heading to his folks house in Woodinville/Bothell (about 8 miles further south). The best anyone can figure is that he fell asleep at the wheel and veered into the Dump Truck. Please pray for his recovery and for his family. The rescue workers out of Fire District 4 in Snohomish did a great job of extracting him and getting him on the chopper. later, john ============================================================= The just shall live by Faith... I don't participate on the list much but still read it every day. I don't own an FSJ anymore courtesy of the maintenence (Or lack Of) By the DSPO. But I own an 86 Dodge Pickup and the FSJ List Has given me so many tips pointers and entertainment for free. All FSJ Owners and admirers are the nicest people I know on the internet as far as my vehicle goes because there just isn't a place for me and my truck. All the dodge lists are filled with guys who can only tell me to sell my ugly old truck and buy a 94 or newer. Any questions unanswered by these lists have had many helpful answers from the FSJ list. I don't really know why I wrote this but Just to let you guys know that I appreciate you guys and if I had an FSJ and didn't have Mule Deer and Antelope tags for Wyoming this Fall I would join you guys in Ouray.
