Actually, mine has a guide with a hole in it that bolts to one of the valve cover bolts to guide the tube close to the head. Took a lot of the guesswork out of the chore. - --Vince - ----- Original Message ----- From: "R.J. Harvey Field is just south of Snohomish, across the river by the world famous airport... ;) In case you don't know what a binder is... it's an International Harvester. later, john - ------------- John, Today and tomorrow is the NW Binders show down at Harvey field. I'll be there today, if you stop by, I can relate some tips for the Ouray trip as we just recently returned from a 2700 mile venture in the FSJ to Salt Lake and back via Yellowstone. TWIN STICK conversion continues... soon as my son wakes up we'll probably finish it up today... (he works nights). I'm still waiting to hear from the guy with the '83 Wag, my son wants to get a different carb for his '77 Chero, I'm trying to convince him to go with a TBI setup for off-road... any links, thoughts on brand... I loathe things holley... but one good thing is I'll get another 1406 out of the deal. :) Not sure if I'll make the 360 a working setup or do my Diesel conversion... no time, no money and too many vehicles already... ;) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 21:21:03 +0000 From: Machinedoc-at-attbi.com Subject: Refsj: Quadra Junk!?? I don't know where he might have heard of that term for our beloved reliable transfer cases, but he should rethink continuing to use it. If memory serves me correctly, the term "quadrajunk" is used to describe a certain piece of excrement carburator called a quadrajet. Maybe he got them mixed up. Now I will concede that there may be people that actually like them. Not anybody that I know of though. Curtis Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 15:27:50 -0500 From: "R.J. Baynum" Subject: fsj: Quadra Junk!?? OH, Now I KNOW someone BETTER, not be going around calling it Quadra Junk! Don't get me started! I don't think this person is well informed as the should be. They some education I think On the toughest drive made! I have owned several Borg warner QT, and I have been very mean and naughty to them, in outlandish conditions. I can safely say they are very impressive when in good working condition and well maintained. The problem is most people are just too lazy and or ignorant to take care of them properly, and wonder why, criticize and Blame one the poor FSJ, who pours and strains its guts apart trying to do what the driver asks of it, and then return the same driver and precious cargo, to their destination safely, in rain, hail, sleet, white out snowy conditions and muddy trails no other person in there right mind would even take a mule train down. Every Day this BW QT, Along with other FSJ, before and after her, put there lives on the line, much like our Firemen and police officers. All they ask of us in return, like a loving member of any family,.. is some simple loving tender care, in maintenance and well being, simply and humbly, so the can do their job , , and keep us and our family and loved ones safe and productive through the long years ahead. Good or bad. When your wife was having the baby, Who carried her to the hospital in the storm? The FSJ did.. When you wanted to get away for a special camping trip, and find the secret hidden lake, for a father and son, fine art fly fishing and just to get to know each other better trip.. Who got you there in the that small rocky muddy Billy goat of a trail, loaded down with a Canoe too? Your reliable Trusty , Powerful and always faithful , ( and.. in the eye's of a child.. his Father's super hero's sidekick. ). The FSJ! See my point?? R.J. Why change it? just add the low range unit to the qtrac and you have a stout tcase with a better low range than a D20. To change to a Dana 20 you will need adaptors and a new tranny output shaft. The stock d20 TH400 parts are rare and are prone to failure (according to list knowledge) the Advance Adptors parts are expensive also. If you must change tcases why not get a junk chev TH400 with NP208 (or a 203) from a blazer and swap the rear output and tcase to make it all fit. ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #1704 **************************
