Drove a bigger easyout in the fitting and it came right out. Got the whole thing back on the transmission jack and back under the vehicle. Then it got real dark so I stopped. Tomorrow it goes back up and in. Got a note that my radiator shipped today. Should be in tomorrow. I still have a shot at this trip I think. - --Vince '81 Wagoneer ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Aug 2002 21:59:40 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: Latest trip from OZ A: Sounds like either your breather got plugged and pressure buildup blew the seal out or something ate the seal (bearing coming apart or snap ring poped out of slot) From: "Veijo Phillips" Subject: fsj: Latest trip from OZ Well I've finally managed to damage my 228 xfer case. We had a race meeting in Adelaide (about 800km from Melbourne). Was on my way home, probably been on road for about an hour travelling happily at 110km/h with the big trailer on the back when BOOM a massive amount of smoke appeared in my rearvision mirror, I pulled over straight away thinking it may have been a tyre on the trailer but unfortunatly no. On inspection of the car I noticed a lot of oil pouring from the xfer case, bummer. It appeared as though the seal has blown off the back of the xfer case. I called the roadside assisit people and they took my big blue monster away to be trucked back to Melbourne. Luckily my father was following with his ford sedan so we at least had transport home. The saga doesn't stop there, my trailer isin't covered by roadside assist so I've had to come home to Melbourne, pick up my toyota 4x4 and drive back 8 hours to get the trailer, we leave tonight, I just wish the ford could have towed. Well I'm not too sure of the damage to the xfer case, anyone want to have a punt at what damage I could have done???? At one stage I was going to pop the seal back in fill it up with oil and head off again but I didn't want to risk more damage I've heard that these xfer cases dont' like running low on oil, and they can be very costly to repair! Should have the car back on Thursday then it's off with the xfer case for assesment. Will keep you all posted Regards Veijo ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Aug 2002 22:04:14 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: accelerator pump? A: They are same as Holley and are available most parts stores in the Help rack (don't have the number handy) From: "Daniel Beiers" Subject: fsj: accelerator pump? Morning all, awhile back I asked you guys about a hesitation I was experiencing when accelerating slowly (85 grand wagoneer-360 auto). after doing a lot of reading and talking with friends/mechanics, I have come to the conclusion that I have a problematic accelerator pump. I have looked on auto parts stores websites and have not been able to find this part. is the pump or diaphragm available? I haven't really dug into the Haynes manual yet but I am also curious about the difficulty of replacing this. Is it something the normal shade tree mechanic can do? I had plans for a 4 barrel carb and intake (intake is sitting here next to me) but it looks like hard times are around the corner and I am just going to fix my existing setup. the first round of layoffs have come and gone and round two is said to be in the works. I am likely on that second list, just not enough seniority. I am going to get all the little quirky things worked out on the wag as I will likely have to sell it if I get axed. just out of curiosity what are these things going for nowadays. good interior (some small crack and imperfections in the leather), factory sunroof, no rust, minor ding in hood, everything working, a few minor engine upgrades, new tires, 126,000 miles. I love this Jeep. I really can't imagine letting it go. but if I have no job I have debt that would need to be taken care of and the waggy would pay some of it. one car is enough for someone whose unemployed :) anyway, thanks for the help Dan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Aug 2002 22:39:06 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: Ouray express Well, it looks like the '99 WJ will be towing my Datsun longbed trailer. Hopefully only to SLC. I'm bringing back a TH400/QT/drivelines and Axle from SLC for my son's truck... a U-haul trailer is $125 and a big box. My little trailer fits behind my WJ nicely and is a proven FSJ parts hauler. :) I thought about using my '75 J10 box, went over and measured it... yikes!!!! It'd stick out a full foot!!! big square box acting as an air brake... So I need to fix some wiring, clean it up and start loading FSJ parts... Will bring an extra set of rims to Ouray to sell, maybe some fenders even... :) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Aug 2002 22:44:25 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: update on pre-Ouray woes of the WJ nature At 03:24 AM 8/6/2002 +0000, fsj-digest wrote: >From: "Vince Orr" >Subject: fsj: Re: ouray problems not unique to FSJs >Well, you should beat the traffic that way! On the trails too! might be towing the trailer, not likely to wander onto trails. :) Although my trailer is trail proven... I've used it up here on trails without trouble... :) Going to lighten it up a bit before I leave. Weighs around 1,400lbs right now, will pull the fuel tank, brake parts and extra cross members out... :) >- ----- Original Message ----- >Subject: fsj: ouray problems not unique to FSJs > > my '99 WJ is leaking tranny fluid up by the radiator... took it back to Jim Startup's, johnny crawled under and found the problem right away... was the cooler line laying on the sway bar... wore a hole in it. he rerouted the metal line, shortened the hose and even went out on a road test to make sure the noises I've been hearing are ok. :) All systems go... time to vacuum it out, clean it up and fix the wiring on my trailer... will be hauling more stuff to Ouray it looks like... ;) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Aug 2002 07:40:35 -0700 From: Tesar Landon-r16884 Subject: [none] And I am not the only one here that cross post, Though it seems Landon, has picked me to be the poster boy, holding a little sign, at the web police booking dept. And does anyone have one for sale near Seattle for a reasonable price? (or partial swap for some of the other stuff I have. List coming VERY soon!) My trip to Ouray has cost me plenty, and I haven't even turned a wheel on my truck to go yet! I just got my front axle rebuilt with 4.10 gears and found my rear has toasted spider gears in the trash loc, so I have to come up with something else (find an open carrier to swap in, or overhaul the original M20 with 4.10 for $300, or find someone else with a 5 bolt wheel J3000 D60-2 with 4.10 gears I can get, put it in for the trip and get my Moser shaft replacement shafts later and carry 2 spares) I'm getting down to the wire and I still need to do exhaust and get the motor running. I'm going to have to swap in my old dist from Elmo to get it running with the BBD carb grafted onto the Renix intake and put a Delco alt in. ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #1715 **************************
