It was revving to 2 grand when I started it originally so I made some adjustments and now, sometimes, it doesn't engage the choke at all. I've been messing with the settings and I've probably adjusted it too much. Also, the idle is kinda rough after warmup. Could be the edelbrock cam I suppose. I've adjusted the idle screws but am thinking I may have it too lean. I guess I'll keep playing around. Otherwise, I'll have to start looking for other causes. - --Vince '81 Wagoneer ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Aug 2002 22:18:24 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: the journey home... Pulling out of Salt Lake City in the morning heading for Boise. The week in Ouray to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the SJ model Jeep was great. lots of pictures at: http://wagoneers.com/ouray Steve J. I'm always in digest mode... missed your post about coming down from Grand Junction. JC could have hooked us up though, we'd been chattering back and forth on our cells the whole time down there. He got Max together in time and even won a couple awards with him. :) Superdawg would have won too had he been there... :( Anyway, trailer is loaded with an NP219, a th400 and Borg Warner QT, the '99 WJ is tanked up and pointed north. :) Should be in Snohomish late Friday. :) This has been a nice trip and the WJ has really been great. later, john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com via PINE on Linux ** (plain text please!) ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ...and remember, leaving life without Jesus just isn't recommended... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Aug 2002 09:05:08 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: propane power (was Re: fsj: RE: Re: FSJ Picnic - Ouray 2002) A: John will have to pass this on to Dalan, since he didn't include the email addy. If the motor was beefed up (higher compression, like -at- 11:1 or so) LPG will get MORE power than a gas motor on 8.5:1 stock C/R. LPG run in regular motors makes less power because it's higher "octane" than gas. My stroker 6 cyl will be running LPG and I estimate 300 HP (with the figures we put into a computer dyno program from the Stroker list) which will push my J10 real nice. Very few people have Amsoil stuff north of the 49th parallel (at least before I moved down here in '95) From: john Subject: fsj: RE: Re: FSJ Picnic - Ouray 2002 I think the max towing of a GW is 7,500 lbs depending on the hitch, you will lose power with propane. Not sure about MSD ignition. Jacobs wires are great, but not their ignition modules. Avoid the K&N filters, they're over priced, a pain to clean, expensive, and don't filter well. The Amsoil filters are a much better. See my sig file for info. :) I'll look into the trailer ratings if you remind me around Saturday... :) john On Wed, 21 Aug 2002, Dalan Hawker wrote: >-->I have just purchased an '87 Grand Wagoneer with a propane convertion and am wanting to fix it up to tow my travel trailer. It has a factory towing package with trans cooler etc. The engine is a 360 but I have absolutely no history on the vehicle so I have no idea what was done to it. The cat and pollution gear looks like it is removed, as is the gas tank and spare tire (propane tanks sit here now). I am in th e process of tweaking it for maximum power (short of an engine rebuild). Some say you will lose about 10% power with propane. Others say if it was desided strictly as a propane engine during the install it should be fine. Any suggestions or comments? I am planning on new free-flow exhaust system (Magnaflow), K&N filter, possibly new MSD ignition system. >--> >-->FSJ newbie >--> >-->Dalan Hawker >-->British Columbia, Canada ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Aug 2002 08:26:44 +1000 From: "Veijo Phillips" Subject: RE: propane power (was Re: fsj: RE: Re: FSJ Picnic - Ouray 2002) My FSJ runs a LPG conversion and funny enough I don't really find too much of a power loss maybe 2-3%. I'm also towing a trailer that weighs around 5500lbs fully loaded and I have no problems at all we sit on an easy 110 km/h. I'm running a relativly standard setup, everything was rebuilt recently and I only had small mods made - stainless valves and hardened seats for the propane, mild camshaft for the towing, high stall tourqe converveter in the 727. Handling was a big issue I found a MASSIVE improvement by running the rancho RS9000 shocks and steering stab. I also added two new leaves and the rear springs because of the weight. >From this I have a realativly economical towing monster, much better than the new 6cyl toyota's and nissans we run over here. If you plan to run dual fuel (LPG and gas) it is vital that you run on gas at least once a month otherwise the poor old carb will dry up and not function (like I found not so long ago) I'll agree with the K&N air filter over priced and causes headaches.
