I'm giving some thought to selling my '87 Cherokee and getting a '97 or newer... I'd forgotten how nice the XJ's are. I'm figuring that SuperDawg is going to be a while longer and when he's done he'll be more of a show truck... anyway... I've got all the problems fixed on this thing, running great, 16mpg on 31's. Here's what I've added: - CD player - factory rear spoiler - brush guard - CIBIE fog lights - Amsoil Two Stage Air Filter - 3" lift - adjustable track bar - 31x10.5 Michelin LTXs It has 239,500 miles, but had the rear main seal replaced, front end aligned. It has a functional factory A/C, manual windows, no cruise, automatic, 3.55 gears, steel rims, good glass, cloth seats. It's simple, reliable and economical. Paint is in excellent condition as well. http://wagoneers.com/XJ/rigs/johns-87/3-cherokees-77-87-99.jpg4 http://wagoneers.com/XJ/rigs/johns-87/johns-87-xj-oct-16-2002.jpg - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Nov 2002 20:30:20 -0800 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: Need a fuel tank for a 1979 J10 Honcho A: I have one from a '76 J10 if yours is metal. We're planning on heading to Rapid City, SD from Seattle on Tuesday... stopping in Butte, MT both ways... coming back Fri or Sat... anyone out there care to share what the weather / road conditions are like? Any serious snow expected or out there? appreciate any suggestions for fuel (gas) or food along the way... taking the '99 WJ with Quadradrive... don't expect any problems, weather report looks good now, but the wife is a bit "nervous". She forgets how we drive up into the mountains for fun, and just head up a trail until we're pushing so much snow we can't go any further, then would take out the sleds and stuff, play, then turn around and drive home... I can't imagine I-90 getting enough snow to go up over the front bumper... ;) thanx, john-at-wagoneers.com (john-at-wagoneers.com) - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Nov 2002 23:18:48 -0800 From: "Paul and Megan Kershner" Subject: fsj: RE: Jeep parts - Pacific NW And don't forget, folks. Since I told him he could have it ONLY if he didn't take the sawzall to it... so now he's talking about 8 to 12" of lift... :) works for me... just don't hack it up... :) john >-----Original Message----- >From: owner-fsj-at-digest.net [mailto:owner-fsj-at-digest.net] On Behalf Of >john >Sent: Saturday, November 23, 2002 9:19 PM >To: Recipient list suppressed >Subject: fsj: Jeep parts - Pacific NW > >Just remembered we've got a T-18 out here too. > >So the list of Jeep parts is: > >- '77 Cherokee 2dr, 8" of lift? My 87 Waggy (360) w/ 50K on the clock just had a heart attack with Crankshaft Thrust Bearing failure. Can anyone lead me to a good rebuilder south of Atlanta????? I understand the is not an uncommon problem... it seems its mostly due to excessive lube oil/converter pressure builds up between the front pump and the hub of the converter creating excessive forward pressure on the crankshaft. The bypass valve generally cannot vent this excessive pressure. It seems there are two possible problems that could cause this. 1) Transmission cooler inlet pressure is substantially higher than the outlet pressure, implying a restriction in the lines or the cooler. 2) Check for spline wear on the input shaft which may be causing bind and not allowing the converter to properly move rearward on the input shaft. So, bottom line...the bottom end needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Anyone have a recommendation on were in the south Atlanta area to have the engine rebuilt??? Thanks for any input....Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Nov 2002 11:42:04 -0800 From: Michael Shimniok (by way of john ) Subject: fsj: Fwd: Calendar Picture Submission Can you please share with fsj-at-digest.net? thanx Please reply to markwelle-at-msn.com Begin forwarded message: OK fellow FSJer's, we have plenty of interest in producing a 2003 FSJ Calendar made up of YOUR rigs; whether they are stock, radical, on-road, or off, we want your pictures! All pictures will be considered, but only the best 13 will be used in the calendar (1 for the cover, and 1 for each month). The pictures will be 'judged' on a variety of criteria, including the type of truck and the quality of the picture. We NEED to represent all FSJ's; Wags, Cherokees, J-trucks, military, as well as within those types, we want to show both stock/beauty shots and modified rigs too. Additionally, we will try to showcase some of the different configurations that may have been available, i.e. 2 doors, 4 doors, etc. What this all boils down to is: SEND US A PICTURE OF YOUR RIG. Most important is the quality of the picture. Please make sure that your picture fits into the following specs: Taken with a 3+ mega pixel digital camera set at the highest quality; or A 35 mm print, scanned at 300 dpi, at 200%, on photo setting; or Send in your print and we'll take care of the scanning if you're selected. Once you have a digital file ready to send (either from your camera or a scanned picture), you must follow the procedure listed below to submit your picture. Any other method will result in us NOT SEEING your file, and therefore it will not be considered for the calendar. EMAIL FILE ATTACHMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE TO UPLOAD YOUR FILES TO OUR FTP SITE: 1. Save your file named FSJcal-first initial last name ; example:FSJcal-mwelle 2. To access the FTP site, type this EXACT address into your browser: ftp://brid55-at-bridgecenters.net/ 3. You should then see a 'Login As' window 4. Enter 'User Name' of: brid55 5. Enter 'Password' of: gobridge 6. Copy your FSJcal-xxxxxxx file to the 'Upload' folder 7. Send a simple email to mwelle-at-bridgecenters.com informing me that you have submitted a file via FTP This procedure allows larger files to be transmitted without the hassles of LARGE attachments via email, and again, is the ONLY way that files will be accepted for the 2003 FSJ Calendar project. If you would like to send us a print, please do so to: BridgeCenters Attn Mark Welle 20971 East Smoky Hill Road Centennial, CO 80015 As stated prior, the absolute cut off for picture submission is December 9, 2002. At this time, all pictures will be considered, 13 will be chosen, and production will begin. The first shipment will go out on December 13th, in time for Christmas, and depending on need, a second wave will go out sometime late December or early January. Please begin picture submission NOW, so we have time to comb through the many, many pictures that I HOPE we get. Remember, we need 13 GREAT PICTURES in order to make an outstanding calendar, and your's might just be the one we're waiting for; again, any truck, anywhere, as long as the quality of the picture is great, it WILL BE considered for publication! If you are mailing a print, and want it back, please include a SASE; and get those in the mail NOW, as they will take a couple days to get here. Please direct any questions to: mwelle-at-bridgecenters.com Also, please refer to Ethan Brady's VERY informative email regarding picture quality, and how to take an awesome FSJ photo if you are not 100% sure that your pictures are of the highest quality and composition. If you did not get his email, please send me a message (using the address above), and I will forward the tips Ethan provided to you via email. Finally, please check out the following links for examples of good FSJ pictures in terms of their composition (lighting, background, no people visible, etc.). Also, DO NOT DIGITALLY ENHANCE your pictures; we have a graphic designer overseeing this project, and he will make any cosmetic modifications that may be needed. Last but not least, please remember that if you are submitting a picture of your rig 'posed' for a beauty shot, WASH IT; they look really good with a nice back drop, all cleaned up. If you are off-road, of course anything goes! http://www.cfsja.org/rigs/markh/mack2.jpg http://www.cfsja.org/rigs/flint/flintgw1.jpg http://www.cfsja.org/rigs/ply/plyjeep1.jpg http://www.cfsja.org/rigs/welles/09100003.jpg http://www.cfsja.org/rigs/taylor/j-1020.jpg I look forward to getting many many many pictures, and I promise that we will use the best 13, and your's might be just the one we need, so upload it to the FTP site NOW! Thanks in advance to all those submitting pictures, and details will follow soon regarding the purchasing of calendars! Thanks again!
