You can often get by with only chnaging out the thrust washer main. I used to consider putting in Torrington bearings in place of the brass thrust washers, because they can handle end load better. As for the trans causing the problem, most definitely! However, it's a stuck front pump pressure regulator, not converter that causes the problem. I'm not sure which port (if any) on the GM trans to test. I can look at my "old" (brand new, but written in the early '80s) Chilton trans rebuild book to see. (I know there is one on the 727) From: Tesar Landon-r16884 Hi, Well, I was under the hood this weekend, poking around. Gas mileage has dropped to about 9.5 mpg, oil consumption has increased, and I'm trying to figure it out...checking timing, goosing the gas a little bit to check the response, and I notice, Hey, I can see the crank pulley move away from the front of the block about 1/8". So I show my wife, and isn't that neat, and crankshaft end play has been stated as a known problem with these engines and it wasn't fixed at the last rebuild time, and that was Saturday. Sunday I'm looking at it again, and now I hear WWWRREEEEEKK! when the pulley steps out. Uh-oh. Don't do that anymore. There's about 52K on this reuild. Is it rebuild time again? Oil pressure is still good. There's some valvetrain noise. Has anyone had luck (good/bad) with a used engine? Are we looking at a new crankshaft? - - - Landon Austin, TX _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 13:18:04 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: J20 dana 60 rear I would think it might work... the J20 axle is a widetrac so fender coverage might be an issue, don't have the dimensions handy. Also the D60 is 8 lug. Otherwise if the spring mounts line up shouldn't be a big issue. john At 02:08 PM 12/19/2002 -0500, gendav-at-eos.net wrote: >John, I came across an article sent to you by Mike Cummings where he put the >drivetrain from a J20 into an XJ.
