I'm the senior engineering CAD systems administrator at Intermec, take care of all the engineering servers and workstations so they can run electrical and mechanical CAD apps. Was mostly UNIX (HP-UX, Solaris and Linux) but my bosses decided that NT pc's would be cheaper... so we've opened that pandora's box... I'm hoping that the apps we support will be ported to Linux in a year or two and our reliability and customer service will return to what it is now with UNIX. I also teach computer science at City University and travel a couple weeks out of the year teaching commercial UNIX courses in my free time. ;) Wait until SuperDawg is done... the electronics setup in there is going to be pretty cool... I don't think they were gonna charge me 341, maybe half that, just for the motor... Wish I had known you were having a problem. If I was in Vermont in January, I'd probably want it fixed, too. If you haven't installed it yet, TAKE IT BACK! These are a simple motor, and a pleasure to work on. The two piece housing is held together by detents, and should twist apart. Most likely, the brushes are dirty and can't contact the copper, or have built up a carbon ring where they contact the copper and no juice is going through. Get some sandpaper, and compressed air, and some paper clips, and a long screwdriver (to hold the brushes back during reassembly) the most fun thing is to hook a battery charger to it while it's still on the bench - scared the heck out of me when it started hopping around on the fan blades. Probably the only way to mess this up is to force the fan blades off by prying, so that the motor shaft spins freely inside the fan blades. I think there is a set screw/c-clip. It's a great feeling to get this one running again, without the xxxxxxx dealer's help. I bet you can contact a parts place knowing the mfr (York?) for these and get brushes if you've worn through them completely. If you've already spent the money, it's a good exercise anyway. You can't have anything left to lose... - - Landon '89 GW ================== Date: Thu, 16 Jan 2003 14:18:14 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: Re: [FSJ-List] The Stealership strikes again! check your grounds and fusible links... not sure if the '89 has the same blower setup on the firewall engine side as earlier ones or not, but I have one out of a '77... the a/c fan is under the dash, pass side, all the did in '86 was move the controls up top... not sure what this other fan is... should look at an '86 or up to see... john On Thu, 16 Jan 2003, George Milam wrote: >-->Hello: >--> >-->The other morning I get into the '89 GW and the defroster isn't blowing air >-->at all. A trailer is a good idea... but don't overload the trailer unless it's got trailer brakes! Up here in WA state the trailer can only weigh 40% of the vehicle, if it's more then that, brakes are required. A GW weighs in around 4,500 to 5,000 lbs. That's 2,000 lbs for trailer and load... my pickup bed utility trailers usually tip the scale at 850 to 1,200lbs... doesn't leave a lot of room for pavers... ;) Although Old Blue did haul one ton of quarry "two man" rocks in the trailer... trailer weighed about 3,200lbs... it was a cautious trip home... (didn't have trailer brakes). john At 03:22 PM 1/17/2003 -0800, Jay Diffendorfer wrote: >Howdy oh wisdomous list. > So my wife wants me to pick up concrete pavers for a garden >project in the backyard...I swear I'm becoming a yuppie and don't even know >it. I get to buy another Jeep!!!! The XJ's have limitations under hard core wheeling... they don't hold up with the uni-frame... the lower control arms will crack and break off, the tailgate assy gets tweaked and cracked, and so on... not a big deal for 99% of XJ owners. :) The Liberties are butt ugly 'toon town looking messes. They weigh 50 lbs MORE then my '99 WJ Grand Cherokee. The 3.7L V6 is gutless in that config. They handle worse then an FSJ. Although they ride slightly nicer then a WJ (which is a LOT better then an XJ) and are quieter then a WJ. But you can see Mercedes influence with the controls in the center of the console. I drove one and would rather have my '99 WJ or even my '87 XJ. :) I still think Daimler Chrysler is out of their collective minds for dropping the XJ... I've lost count to how many SJ and XJ's I've had: see: http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html :) john At 08:13 PM 1/18/2003 -0800, Philip Calusine wrote: >I'll have to agree that the XJ's are a well built vehicle.
