I just push the old one out with the new one. Quick, and easy. I was wondering if my Wag is not timed right (idles kinda rough) when it idles the ammeter jumps around with a heavy load (lights and heater are on) . I have pretty much trouble shot every thing else I am down to replacing the alternator and timing it. I have never timed this rig. Do I have to take the fan shroud off to get the timing light to the marker? This rig is a real pain in my arse but i think it's worth it. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 01:49:43 -0800 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: Ball Joints A: To save you a chunk of effort, you can pull your knuckles off, and pop to the machine shop to get them re and re'd (cost me $35 at Olympic with my own parts on a slow day) I plan to get the proper tool to do my own, but *ouch* $300 is more than I can handle right now! (I still have $5,000 I have to account for from last summer!) From: JeepNut Subject: fsj: Ball Joints Howdy all, Well now that I've got the '87 driveable, I can start to think about the long overdues for the '88. Ball Joints top the list. I've got the FSM MR-253 and looking things over, see that this will be fun. But I'm sure it's doable. I've got some pullers, etc that I think I can use for this task. Anybody who has done this before feel free to give me some advice. Since the axles have to come out, I may as well replace the Ujoints. Cheap and easy while I'm in that far. Anything else that is cheap or logical to do while I'm in there besides the ball joints and ujoints? Pics in the manual shows what looks like a 2arm puller to do the ball joint removal and reseating. Anything special about this puller or will a standard 3/2arm 3.5 ton puller from AutoZone do the trick? I see there is a special plate they use for the job. Nothing special, I think I'll just make my own from a piece of 3/16 steel or something similar. J.C. or anyone else that has done this before please feel free to offer your wisdom. Thanks!
