Each of them broke up near where they attach to the bottom of the window. If you're pushing of the portion of the gear strip that is running through the motor's drive gear, it won't budge. Hook the switch back up & roll the window down. If you see the gear strip feed down, but the window doesn't move, that's your problem. Does much better on wet pavement than my worn Wranglers and I really like the way the lugs kinda stick out along the edge of the tread. They are noticebly quieter on the highway than my old tires too (hey a few decibels difference in a TJ is a good thing!) My wife says they ride better but I think it is just "new tire" and they will stiffen up as they get older. Speedo is off by 2 mph at 75 mph because I'm only supposed to have 225's on it and I went a little taller. Still wishing in the back of my mind that I had gone with the 31's but I'm planning a lift and 38" tires later. Also considering beefing up the axles to handle the tires, but enough about TJ toy's, this is a BIG JEEP list! Still running the costco specials on my FSJ - plenty of tire for it, it never spins unless I tromp it on snow.....and then all four will spin. :) That np219 with quadratrac and trac locs and the sheer weight of the vehicle really makes this one of the most stable and safest vehicles on the road. I still prefer my Rez Runner when I want no hassles in bad weather. REZ REPORT: Now I just have to force myself to tear into my timing cover leak. Been thinking about this for awhile. Going hunting for gaskets today.....may start tearing into it later. But first, I'm going to try a quick fix with some gasket goop like Jim had recommended. I don't see where I've got much to lose. Heck a dab of JB weld might even work well in this situation but I plan to fix it right later so I think I want something less durable and semi-permanent. The hunk of gasket that is blown out is still hanging there. I think I'll loosen the timing cover, put some goop in the proper place, goop up the hunk of gasket and glue it in there. Later I'll snug the timing cover back down on the silicone after it sets up. If I can limp this problem into the warmer months, I'll fix it properly at a later date. Anyone interested in pictures of this madness? Plus, I'm going to take a look at the old timing cover and see if I can learn anything from it. I'm probably much luckier that the coolant is leaking out the side into the air than if it was leaking into the oil! Hey, I'm just trying to see the bright side of this and count what few blessings I have in this situation! - --Vince '81 Waggie '99 TJ - ----- Original Message ----- From: "john" Been driving around on BFG AT KO's for the last couple of days... downsized my tires from the Michelin LTX M/S 31x10.5 to the bfg 215/75 R15 on my '87 XJ. Most of the first batch has been crushed. These, again, have both 232s and 4-cyl AMC engines. Most everything is there, but a few of the carbs and alternators are missing. I can pull a few small parts for anyone tomorrow (Saturday) if you email me right away. Otherwise it will be next weekend. The yard also has three full-size jeeps. All are 360/autos. Found out from the stealership that this part is "no longer serviceable". IOTW, they don't make 'em any more. I checked the MoPar parts locator and found that there were exactly 3 of these left in inventory. One in Brooklyn, one in Arizona, one in somebody else's stock room. I bought the one in AZ, meaning that there are exactly 2 of these OEM parts in existance. $13.00 plus freight to get fresh air into the Waggie. I'd like to buy both the others, as I'm sure I'll need another one somewhere along the line. I plan to pass into the next realm still driving an SJ so I should really buy the other 2, but probably won't. I just can't imagine ever buying a new vehicle... anything DC's produced since the 91 Grand Wagoneer has just been so ugly or small... anyway, I don't have money to spend on parts that aren't immediately needed. Actually I had already replaced both of mine a couple of years ago. But I caught a loop hanging from my windsheild visor on the extended cable and busted it at it's mounting point. Suspect I'll be much more careful in the future... Just thought I'd pass along this sad news.... I hate hearing about these parts becoming no longer serviceable...
