I have owned a 1975 FSJ Wagoneer 360/Quadra, 1979 FSJ Wagoneer 360 Quadra, 1984 FSJ Wagoneer Selectrac 360 sold it with over 500,000 miles still going strong (motor any way trany a little rough), and now a 1987 XJ 4dr Cherokee. I purchased this jeep just after losing my 1979 to a fire, I had been saving up both time and money to replace all the rubber under the hood when the fuel line split and one thing led to another and I watched it burn (ran out of fire extinguisher when the interior caught). SO the other night my wife came home in the little Jeep (also known as EE, the hood emblem is missing the J & P) and noted a smell of raw gas, after the initial panic and flash backs were over I parked it. Yesterday I determined that it was leaking from the connection on the fuel rail to the injector. I purchased all new seals and replaced them all, it leaked worse, found problem replaced two o-rings that I nicked, second time still leaked bought more seals, still leaking I am losing hair almost as fast as the gas leaks out of the connection on # s 1,2, and 4 injectors (front to back) (# 2 was original culprit). Could the bells be distorted on the fuel Rail? It came apart hard and went together just as hard. Tomorrow going to town to get some small pipe clamps and see if that can tighten this mess up. Unless you have a better Idea??? =========================== YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE O-RINGS ON ALL THE INJECTORS. GO TO the dealer and buy the O-ring kit, it's not much, be sure to replace the one on the fuel regulator too... not a hard job at all... john ======================== By the way I did some things to my 79 that would surprise most, Before it caught on fire there was no limit to what it could do, want to go faster push the long pedal, YOU WILL go faster, no matter how fast you went. What is it with people in these new SUV s that want to try and race their betters? I have enjoyed the little one though, has a 5-speed, fifth seems to be on a planet all it s own, to be in the power range on the engine you should be going at least 75 m.p.h. BEFORE you shift into it, don t know how fast it can go, speed-o quits at eighty, what was AMC thinking? Nerves give out then, most of the bushing in the suspension are rotted (this summers project), when I bought it in 2000 it had only 79k miles, and I traced the owners so it was accurate, it sat mostly outside, in Cheyenne WY, and dry rotted, Radiator was silted up about half way, no one had ever flushed it. Rebuilt it and drove it till now with nothing but oil, oh and that transfer case I broke scaring the High school kids that wanted to race& Let me know if you have any suggestions. Forgot to mention it s a 4.0l engine. (the rest of the cover can be fixed with silicone or JB weld after you fix the slack timing chain that ate through it!) The seal may require a speedi-sleeve to fix the balancer so it doesn't leak anymore. I'd check with GM dealers parts departments... or possibly crown auto... there was a guy down in Oregon that was going through these things and reselling them... haven't heard from him in a long time though. Rambo's doors aren't ideal right now... It'll be a while before Curtis can whip them into shape (curtis, remember NOT to paint them right away. ;). And there is another problem... the cost of having the forms made... I suppose when I talk to the fabricator I'll have an idea of costs. If we can preorder several doors that'll help me make it happen. :) > I would dearly LOVE to have a set of doors rather than the fold down > tailgate even tho I have managed to keep my gate in good shape and it > works well for long periods of time. But I know for sure if I had been able to order my Waggie > from a factory, I would have wanted to order her WITH barn doors... The other big problem with the doors is procuring the hinges... if we take the ones off of Rambo we might be able to have a machine shop recreate them... but they're going to be very expensive. And if Curtis and I are going to go through all this expense and trouble you can darn well be sure that it's going to be added to the price tag. It's also the reason why they ain't selling these things at Schucks or the Jeep dealer either. Limited production of highly specialized items is extremely costly. If you're willing to pay, we're willing to play. My baby Benz is kaput. The ignition switch failed and parts are on order. Soon as it's up and running I'll head up to BC to meet with the fabricator. Oh wait... I'm not sure the fenders will fit in the benz... they're almost six feet tall... I know they'd fit in the 300D... Anyway... my "sabbatical" is nearing the end... interviews are starting to happen so it's only a matter of a few weeks... This time I'm going to do my level best to stall the start date. :) So many projects, so much to do... so little time...
