While that is true, the cost has not yet gone up. Just the rumour of war pushed it up. Some people think the gov't is getting a bigger cut. Nada! If anything, the gov is getting less because people are buying less gas and trying to improve the economy of their present transportation. (I fall in that category) If you buy MORE gas at the inflated price, then they feel they are doing the right thing with jacked up prices. Need I mention the companies made BILLION$ in profit last year? Or the decades before that? Sure, they bought this election fair and square (didn't matter who won because GW and Al are both oil money) I aim to reduce my gasoline consumption to zero. (other things like lubricants I'll still have to use, and LPG is a byproduct of oil, but Natural Gas is radily available) All that will happen is that this will backfire and people will work even harder to get better fuel economy and alternative fuels will become much more common, which will result in less demand for gas. Availability and demand are a funny thing. If you become a dog in a gas filled manger, the sheeple will look elsewhere for food, err... fuel. What's needed is backlash from the public, like during 9/11 when that station jacked the price on fuel and hotel rooms. The gov't stepped up and fined him (I think jail tme too?) That won't happen in this case unless there is enough screams from John Q Public to his elected "reprehensitives" that something be done. I am already filing to Christine Gregoire (WA State Attorney General) to kick start the jerks in our capital. From: James Isennock Subject: fsj: RE: FW: Gas Prices/Pass It On What about all the Americans that work at Exxon and Mobile stations? What about the Americans that drive the trucks delivering to those stations? What about the American refinery workers that produce the gas sold at those stations? The competitive marketplace in America already ensures a reasonable (yes I said reasonable, look at gas prices in the rest of the civilized world) price. Exxon and Mobile (or any company selling anything) simply cannot sell at less than the cost (which the American consumer can not affect) so, we don't buy gas there and they go out of business, what have we done? We have lessened the competition, so the other companies can Raise Prices. How about this, Oil, as with most things, is cheaper in bulk, So we need to increase demand so the oil companies need to buy more to satisfy demand. They will then get volume discounts and the competitive nature of business will ensure that those discounts are passed along to consumers. Instead of boycotting individual companies, I suggest we encourage everyone to buy more gas! As FSJ owners we are already doing more than our fair share here (10 MPG) but we can allow our friends and neighbors to use our gas sucking Jeeps when we aren't. I personally have decided to let my Jeep run 24 hours a day 7 days a week until gas is less than a dollar a gallon! If we all make a similar sacrifice I believe that we CAN make a difference. Send my idea to ten people each, If those ten each send it to ten more by the end of the week we will have unfailing health and a guarantee of a place in the Heaven of our choice/belief. DON'T BREAK THE CHAIN!! A fellow in Pennsylvania broke the chain and within three days had totaled is 78 J-20 and was forced to drive a rental KIA!!! My new axles will set me back a bit more with new custom steering parts. I still need to get my rear shackle flip ready!
