I'd actually prefer a minimal flat fee up front, that way the "math" involved is simple and there is no desire to complete the transaction off of the site. If the fees are low folks will come. Maybe even a subscription service of some kind. Where folks sign up for a flat fee and have a place to post their stuff, pictures and so on. Not sure if you ever looked at the 6.2/6.5L Diesel web site, but they went subscription, something like $25/yr or so, excellent documentation, pictures and ideas there. One of my friends bought some of their papers and uses the info to sell amsoil. If I spend some time organizing and cleaning up what I have, which I'm doing right now, I could make a very informative, qualitative FSJ site for members only that would be worth it. My concerns are bandwidth, administration and making sure I cover the costs... I don't have a full time job right now and I can't afford to fund something like this on my own... beyond what I'm paying already for wagoneers.com. But I've got to make sure that what I'm creating is solid, useful and a value, especially considering all the free sites already available. I've got students working on some ideas for this in some Systems Engineering classes I'm teaching. I appreciate the input about the Open Source stuff. My learning curve is going to be a bit steep, trying to setup a couple systems and load MySQL and start working with that. I appreciate the encouraging words from my friends in the FSJ community. Trying to find a full time job and all the other projects I have going on are a bit distracting. Especially when I can see that there will be no clear revenue stream coming from any of the ideas I've got at this point. :) So, what ever I put together will have to be for fun and Lord willing able to cover the costs of implementing and running... or I won't be able to do it. Basically, the only thing I've got to offer right now is the FSJ stickers, and the idea of selling business cards with the FSJ logo on the front and your info on the back, fiberglass replacement fenders for the J10 Stepside, and maybe wagoneers.com email addresses, but no dial up at this point... I'm working on restructuring http://wagoneers.com/FSJ I've got a new tool that creates a "flip book" image that will cycle through all the pictures. I'm going to clean up the rigs section and make it more user friendly. Who knows how long that all will take. :) It took three days to download all the pictures, well, almost all of them... :) filled up my harddrive. rofl... got to head to class, teaching today, thanx again, john At 10:13 AM 5/17/2003 -0400, Steven Adeff wrote: >theres always the idea of some percentage of the selling price like ebay uses. > >other than that, there are already dynamic systems designed for this kind of >thing that can be found as open source. just grab one of these, modify as >needed and go. > >other than that, I like the idea, especially if you put a "wanted" section so >that people parting out FSJ's can find people already looking for parts and >contact them more or less directly. > >On Tuesday 13 May 2003 04:00 am, john wrote: > > the advantage would be that folks searching the internet would > > find wagoneers.com pretty easy and I'd offer pictures with the ads... > > $5 sounds like it would help defray some costs and help the seller too... > > a win-win situation if there was one. ;) working on some ideas... > > either need a job or a viable idea... both wouldn't be bad... ;) > > > > free is always preferred, but sometimes you get what you pay for... other > > times we pay too much for something... and get nothing... ;) > > > > john > >-- >Steven Adeff >jewcanoe-at-tolton.com >JewCanoe: 1987 Grand Wagoneer >...duct tape and zip ties... - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 May 2003 11:13:09 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: Re: 83 Cheif A: '83 was the last year for the full size Cherokee (although the Grand Wagoneer, which was the first year GW in '84, used the same tail lights till '91) '83 was the last year of the 2 dr and Wide tracks. My first true FSJ (not counting the custom '80 IH shortbox stepside pickup 4x4 with 258, 5 speed that looked a lot like John's truck) was an '83 Cherokee 4 dr and when I bought an '84 GW for parts, I was surprised at first that everything would swap! I was confused last message! I meant Kevin Mroz, not Kevin Pekarek! I was surprised he wasn't posted up here in Everett longer! He wrote me that his motor was making nasty noises and we touched base (so to speak) by phone for a few seconds on Mother's day (then my mom called and I had to get off the phone) The program would have to be Jeep-aholics anonymous of course! We are all searching for the perfect FSJ. One that looks good, can go anywhere, haul anything and still get 20 mpg or better! LOL! (Mine will sure be close!) As for the taxes, if the kid lives in King County, the tax is higher than elsewhere due to the "Stadium" fee. (I transfered my Mustang in Maple Valley and saved almost $200 in fees!) DUI has toasted a few cam gears that I know of (last count was -at-25) So far none of Zach's have had the problem. There was 1 stainless steel washer that was needed to make it work that didn't come with it, but that's not a big deal. From: "Vince Orr" Subject: Re: fsj: Re: Garbage In, Oil Out - Long Jim: Yeah, I meant to ask about that HEI setup. Saw that in a 4WD mag the other day and it looked like just what I need. Looks like something off of a GM setup with the coil in the distributor cap. Is that the same one? It also advertised one wire hookup. I'm searching for aftermarket ignition systems today. - - --Vince ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 May 2003 11:34:54 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: fsj: Re: J Truck Gas Filler-upper-"downer" A: Universal fuel hose (straight and stiff) is available from most autoparts places (except mine. Long story, but basically the 401 stuff I got lined up for the '88 (still in the shop) was all bad, so I'm still looking for a COMPLETE 401 (good block, crank, cam, rods, pistons, heads... everything!) for the transplant. I'm still on vacation for two more weeks (leaving for Europe tomorrow), so my net access will be sporadic or nonexistent, so please email me any leads and be patient for the reply. I'll be back around June 03/04. I was just hoping that with two weeks, maybe people could keep an eye out and maybe get a few more leads. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The people must be protected from everything, including themselves.
