AMC GM TH400 adaptor ring A: Yes there is (I have one on my '73 J4000 and any 360 pre '74 with TH400 has the same OEM), BUT that ring is only to bolt the AMC motor to the Buick nailhead TH400 (AKA Unipattern trans) and not a regular Chev TH400 trans (or I would be able to use the ring I have to bolt my 304 to a 700R4 or even better a 4L80 trans, which is a TH400 with overdrive) The trans is the same for the Buick 350 and AMC 327 (which uses the same ring as the 360, but different crank adapter to the flywheel). 232/258/304/350/360 all use differently balanced flywheels. AFAIK, no 401s were bolted to the Unipattern trans from the factory, so there is no factory or aftermarket flywheel for the right balance. (I have pics of the trans w/o the adapter on it, motor with the ring attached and the different flywheels.) I'm getting the feeling I'm missing something here though? Was there another post about this that I missed? Email has been weird since the latest virus attack started last night. (I only got 10 emails today when I normally get almost 100!) From: elliott sydnam Subject: fsj: Brazzadog... AMC GM TH400 adaptor ring Isn't there an AMC to GM TH400 adaptor ring that was used in the first AMC motors before the bellhousings were adapted to fit AMC engines? What year engines did they come on? I know about the Buick and 327 rings, thought I'd seen one for an AMC and the ring was webbed and about 2" deep. (pic won't show on the list, so check out http://www.scottiesharpe.com/killer32/ ) not cheap, but built for FSJs! From: Alexander Wall Subject: fsj: Off-topic truck accessory question I'm looking for a good (read: inexpensive and customer-oriented) source for nerf-bars for my new truck. I can do an online search, but all that can tell me is prices. Does anyone have any suggestions from personal, or even second-hand expriences? Thanks, and sorry for the OT post - y'all just seem to have good info! AMC GM TH400 adaptor ring Thanks Jim. I found some other info on them as well. I'm pretty sure that was an adaptor that was bolted to a 401 I had a few years back, it was about two inches deep. - -Wouldn't the flexplates have been the same as were used in a '74 TH400, I thought it was just a spacer and shim deal? - -Are you saying the adaptor ring for the Buick 350, AMC 327 & 360 were all the same ring, they didn't each have their own? Also, I don't know if there was another post on this as I just signed on. Thanks, Elliott - --- Jim B wrote: > From: "Jim B" > To: "local Jeep list" > Subject: Re: fsj: Brazzadog...
