AMC GM TH400 adaptor ring A: I saw the tag line and thought Ben had posted something before. The flexplates look the same (for the AMC 6 and V8) but they have different amounts of balance weights on them for different motors. The ring is the same for AMC motors (232,258, 304, 360) and it will fit the 401, but it probably wasn't stock. (If you build a new motor, I highly suggest getting the whole rotating assembly zero balanced, then you can use the 6 cyl zero balanced flywheel on it) The trans was the same, but Buick and AMC each had their own adapters. (same trans in 2WD vesion was used in a lot of European luxocars too. Jag, Rolls Royce to name a few) The early Buick nailhead motors had a 2" deep flange that covered the flywheel, which is why you need the ring adapter for the later Buick/Olds/Pontiac and Caddy motors. From: elliott sydnam Subject: fsj: Brazzadog... AMC GM TH400 adaptor ring Thanks Jim. I found some other info on them as well. I'm pretty sure that was an adaptor that was bolted to a 401 I had a few years back, it was about two inches deep. - - -Wouldn't the flexplates have been the same as were used in a '74 TH400, I thought it was just a spacer and shim deal? - - -Are you saying the adaptor ring for the Buick 350, AMC 327 & 360 were all the same ring, they didn't each have their own? Also, I don't know if there was another post on this as I just signed on. AMC GM TH400 adaptor ring Thanks Jim, On another topic we has discussed Jeep duallies, here is a link to a '68 that's been rebuilt in CT and has a Buick 455: http://24.91.255.242/images/Sept14/ The first 5-6 pics on the link are of he dually, he won first place with it at the show. The adapter was used with AMC motors from '71 to '73. The 327 and 350 adapters had different bolt patterns on the engine-side of the adapter, but did use the same transmission-side bolt pattern.
