Have not checked myself. From: Brazzadog-at-aol.com Subject: fsj: Re: AMC GM TH400 adaptor ring Jim pretty much nailed this before I got to it. The adapter was used with AMC motors from '71 to '73. The 327 and 350 adapters had different bolt patterns on the engine-side of the adapter, but did use the same transmission-side bolt pattern. I would pull the linkage out and have it fixed, charge the shop that screwed up the work for the repair (get lots of photos and mechanic's statements as proof) and put them on notice that if there is any other damage, further reparations will be expected. On the other hand, just making mine tight again cured the problem, but it was a NP208. From: Greg Taylor Subject: Tranny/X-fer Questions: Grrring noise NEWLY REBUILT tranny & misaligned X-fer To: AMC-LIST Hi everyone, I have to take our Grand Wagoneer in for service work on the NEWLY INSTALLED transmission, which was installed by the Battle Creek, MI All Tune & Lube. I drove it home on Saturday, only to discover an occasional mild Grrrring noise upon deceleration, once I got off the express way in Royal Oak, MI (100 mile trip on Express way). It occasionally Grrred on the main roads, until I reached home in Rochester Hills, MI. FYI, It is a mild Grrring noise. Upon inspection, they installed my transfer case with the shift linkage bracket BETWEEN the tranny tail flange and the transfer case mating flange ... bending the bracket all up and shoving it rearward about 1/2". I am thinking that it might be partially engaging the 4WD gears inside the transfer case, causing the Grrring noise ... OR ... that the now misaligned transfer case could have possibly allowed the rear tranny output seal to leak, allowing the transmission fluid to be pumped out on the way home ... I still have to check fluid levels to be sure of this, though. So, if any of you can help diagnose what is going on, I'd greatly appreciate it. If they've damaged my 6-week old remanned T-case, I'm going state that I want it opened up, inspected and repaired. Thanks for any answers you all can provide! P.S. The GW is a 1989 with TF-727 and an earlier 80's NP-228 t-case installed. P.S.S. If any of you live hear around Detroit and have knowledge or experience with All Tune & Lube in Shelby Twp, MI or Macomb, MI ... please let me know your thoughts on these shops. Thank you all! ===== Sincerely, Greg Taylor :) <>< Jim Blair, Seattle, WA '84 J10 Black Jack (getting lifted and stroked!), '73 J4000 304/TH400/QT tow truck (it's alive!!), '83 Eagle wagon (soon to be modified!)http://www.virtualjeep.com _________________________________________________________________ Instant message during games with MSN Messenger 6.0. Its been a while since I've pulled one of those panels off, but I believe the panel pops off if you pull on it. There are clips attached to the back of the bezel that snap into holes in the sub-dash. Don't forget, if you pull hard enough anything will pop off... LOL! Well, I'm very sad to report that the Rez Runner got rear ended by a Caddillac today. It's a sad commentary on our country too. The kid that hit my daughter was driving a caddy with personalized license plates with his name and his birth date. He only has a learners permit and not a shred of insurance. The cops hauled him off in cuffs. Daughter has a sore neck. Not sure about the other kids who were riding with her but they all went home basically OK. Rez doing the job to the end....protecting my kids. Well, the new killer 32 tubular steel bumper that Scotty sent me last year is toast. Basically in it's same shape but the tubes crushed in and took the hit. The rubber body mount pulled out of the right rear corner of the wagoneer and the whole corner of the frame was bent down to the ground. Frame appears to be tweaked beyond repair. Rez still was able to limp home in spite of the damage - what a tough vehicle! I may part the vehicle out. I may try to find a newer wagoneer and swap my motor. Any suggestions? Any interest in taking Rez off my hands? - --Vince The Rez Runner is/was: 1981 Wagoneer, 360 (custom built by me, bored .030 over, with Edelbrock carb, manifold, springs, cam, lifters, and chain and sprockets) it is a strong engine which is pushing some major power now. Some slight leaks like most 360s. NP 219 transfer case, 727 tranny. Spare engine, tranny, and transfer case to fit this vehicle. Good steelhorse seats and console. Original back seat. Many other good parts. Windshield is practically new. Tires in great shape. 1981 dealer repair manual. Clear title. Decent stereo. Bumper can probably be salvaged and used if you like the ugly look.... Make an offer. Chicago area. ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #2018 **************************
