I'm considering getting another FSJ. However, it will be my daily driver so I'm thinking that the 6 cylinder may be better on gas. Now, I know that this is not always true. I remember getting 10-14 in my 360s, and about the same with the 401. Is there any hope of getting 20 from the 6 cylinder? Also, I thought that we found that the 4.0L found in the XJ would mate to the FSJ tranny. Has anyone else explored this swap? For reference, my CJ7 with inline 6 (4.2 block, 4.0 HO head, Electomotive FI) averages about 17mpg on the highway. I'm not going to say that its impossible to get 20mpg with the inline 6, but I've never known any CJ/Wrangler to get that- and they are lighter vehicles than the FSJ. lj ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Sep 2003 9:41:56 -0700 From: Subject: Re: fsj: Overheating woes continue It really sounds to me like it's running lean. I've seen this situation when playing with EFI. I'm not saying it's lean, but I can tell you that I replaced the entire cooling system before I fould that the Mr. Gasket 2bbl-4bbl adapter has a huge hole in it. It's worth another look. There are no tell tale signs of headgasket problems; leaking, coolant in the oil, etc. The only time she overheats is when I'm on the highway. If I stay around 45-50mph, she stays pretty much near 180-200. Its not much fun having to take the back roads to work and school. I was running late this morning so I took I-95. It took about 20 min for the engine to get up into danger area. I pulled over to a gas station and waited for it to cool down a bit. I then stayed on the back roads to school. The gauge didnt go any higher than about 180-200. So, why does it overheat on the interstate but not on the back roads? Charles C. '88 GW "Raindog" __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? If memory is correct... wait, here's an extract from my spreadsheet... the last tank recorded was the run down to Portland with my trailer to get those FSJ parts from you. :) #2 cylinder went bad on the trip... still got 14mpg towing that 1,400lb trailer loaded with the 360, fenders, hood, and whatever else was in there... we had it pretty full if I recall correctly... :) I see a few 18 and 19mpg...
